“Great Great location, nice staff, hotel a little tired.”
Reviewed 7 March 2010

We stayed here for the weekend at the end of February and it was excellent. The location is amazing (see picture on www.markinskip.co.uk), the staff worked very hard and were friendly. The rooms are a little tired and out-dated but the beds are wonderful and we didn't go to Cape Town to spend hours in the room. We will be going back next year.

I stayed here shortly after the hotel first opened in the mid-1990s and loved it. Unfortunately, the rooms (with the exception of the "business class suites" ) have not been updated since that time and the common areas are shabby. Both my safety box and my bath were broken (and nothing was done about it for the duration of my stay even after I reported it). The in-room carpet was disgustingly dirty. Dreadful, overpriced restaurant. Front desk staff were badly trained. Great location, but not worth the price - there are far better hotels in Cape Town in this price range.

We stayed at the Radisson in Cape Town for 8 nights in January. We arrived on New Years Eve and had to wait a few hours to check in to our room, but the staff were pleasant and sitting with a drink in the fantastic waterfront bar was hardly a chore. Our room wasn't the biggest I've stayed in, but it was light and clean (and had a particularly nice bathroom), with a fantastic view of Table Mountain. Breakfast on the outside terrace was great - good food in an excellent setting. Perhaps understandably, breakfast on New Year's Day was somewhat chaotic, too many people and not enough staff to serve them adequately, but this wasn't an issue later on in the week.

The hotel is situated about 10 minutes walk from the V&A waterfront area. There is an hourly shuttle bus from the hotel but we also walked it several times with no safety concerns at all (and a great view of the new Green Point stadium). The concierge were very helpful, particularly in getting taxis that arrived within 5 minutes of our asking for them. They also arranged a wine-tasting tour for us at extremely short notice.

The housekeeping is good - one evening I called the front desk to request an ironing board and instead one of the housekeepers knocked on the door and offered to iron my top for me - she returned it ironed in less than 10 minutes. One slightly odd incident - we returned to our room one evening to find that the bed formation had been changed from a double to twin beds! The furniture had been rearranged and everything. Obviously we had not requested this, but a call to the front desk and it was put back the following day.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay: the location was ideal, the food was great, the staff friendly and helpful. Definitely recommended.

Stayed last year for the Lions Rugby Tour and was delighted to get back to this hotel so soon again.

Stunning sea view from the room and the bar / restaurant terrace overlooking the Cape Town Waterfront is a simply stunning location.

Great shuttle service and the genuinely friendly staff at reception made the trip.

Only spent one day here as we were moving on from Cape Town soon after arriving in South Africa. Had booked the wrong day on the online booking service (my mistake) but that was rectified at check-in. Checked in quite early as well and that was no problem. Large room with a view of the ocean and the hotel pool. Nice balcony too. Hotel is very close to the new stadium. Hotel is close to the Waterfront area, but is not actually in the Waterfront area. Its a 5 min drive in the hotels complimentary minibus which we couldn't seem to locate to get us back again later, but a taxi was not very much at all. We had lunch at the hotel, which seemed just ok and service was a bit erratic although they were at least keen. Would not have gambled on having a nice dinner here but with all the options at the Waterfront very close that did not need to be an option. Had a drink in the bar when we got back from the Waterfront that night and it was fine - although a little quiet which we liked.

We stayed 4 nights in the Radisson Blu in Cape Town. Having arrived just after 9am the receptionist explained our room wasnt ready. She invited us to have breakfast on the sun terrace and that our room would be ready within 45 mins. Our room was ready in that time. Our room was spacious and clean. The next 4 days were planned in conjunction with the concierge desk. Nathan was absolutely brilliant and an essential part of our stay. Our tours were arranged. Hotel car was made available , menus from local restaurants were sent to our room and reservations made. Laundry was back in 24hrs. and looking like new. Buffet breakfast was perfect and extensive. Room service was faultless.
Will stay there again. If taking tours run by Eagle Tours we hope you get Helmut a walking talking encyclopaedia and the ultimate professional tour guide. High tea at Mount Nelson should not be missed
