“Sea point air”

Do you want a sea view or mountain view whilst visiting Cape town ,then look no futher than the Ritz Holel ,Cape town . This classified as 3* hotel by Thompson tailor made holidays is excellent value and of Quality service. The Hotel is quite old and does show some signs of wear and aging but the plus side is you get served by excellent staff and the hotel has a super roof top revolving restaurant which has grand piano and quality food .I have read some very unfair reports about this hotel . I would recommend it to anybody who wants a position with a sea front and likes walking , joggong , cycling , paragliding, bus touring, its got every thing outside the front door !! It also has a nice pool which is cleaned every single day by hard woring staff .
The surf is just unbelievable sea air ah!! ah!! breath it !
Views of the Lions head ,light house , stadium ,sea point and with easy walking if you feel like exercise to Camps bay ,or get the cheap taxi , citi bus with pass( easy to get) ,or local bus taxi if you want a surprise ! .local food is abundant and the V&A centre is wihthin 5 minute road trip .

i was very pleased with this holiday and will visit again ,i have no doubt that this 5 score is warranted !!
The room was cahnged every day and the bathroom ,yes bath !! was cleaned daily .

Ellis

Room Tip: I had room number 906 with twin bed and a magnificent view , a nice soak in the bath each evening...

We stayed in this hotel post cruise in November 2013. We got engaged on the cruise and were really looking forward to South Africa to celebrate more- on arrival people from our cruise ship also staying at the hotel were being turned away very rudely with not even an apology just being told "your bookings cancelled". There was no welcoming greeting but despite this we thought we were "lucky" to have not had our booking cancelled. When we got to our room it was extremely dirty- blood on bedding very dirty towels, cupboard doors chipped broken and hanging off, very dirty bathroom and very dirty around windows- when I opened them to get air in I was greeted with a big puff of dirt in my face! We tried to make the most of it but on picking up the phone to ask for the room to be cleaned and new bedding the phone literally just broke in my hand- total joke! The lady on reception told us no way can move as full and sent a cleaner up who literally flushed the toilet and left! The lights were flickering and so on the second visit downstairs a maintenance man came to fix it but with no luck! In the morning we went to complain and a lady on reception said no problem we can be moved and to bring our things to reception and when we return from our day out they will be in our room! On arrival back from our day this was not the case, the manager apologised and asked us to wait in the bar whilst they cleaned a room and moved our things at 1130pm after 2 hours of waiting we still hadn't been told to go to our new room my fiancé went to ask and we were told it was nearly ready, we had told them we were up at 5am for a safari the next day, by midnight I went to complain and was told we couldn't have a room after all and would have to go back to the original one but would be moved the next day for our final night and upgraded to a better room. Again we were told our things would be moved. The her day again this wasn't the case they "didn't want to touch our things" we went to the new room and it was better but there was someone already staying in it! We had a dinner reservation booked in the hotel restaurant top of the ritz and were short on time, they moved us one more time and had an ok room for one night. But most definitely still not the best. We were treated apaulingly with the staff even ignoring me talk and walking off to serve another customer. Luckily we enjoyed our day trips but the experience of the hotel for us as a brand newly engaged couple but a very sad taint on our otherwise perfect holiday. Do not stay here! Don't do what we did and ignore the reviews thinking it would be ok!

We stayed at the Ritz or should we say the Pitz in early January 2014 for 3 nights. Don't know what website we looked at but the room we were given certainly didn't tally with their website! The room was very rundown with poor lighting, bathroom needed a complete refurb and after the cleaner had left on inspection of the toilet it was still soiled and surprised it even flushed. We were so disappointed being our first trip to Cape Town. We are speaking with our Tour Operator at present.

Room Tip: Cannot advise as do not know where the good rooms are kept!

No curtains, no glasses, no bedside lamps, safe locked and useless, filthy mattress, little soundproofing, seagulls eat any breakfast left for a minute or two, broken toilet seat, broken shower head, surly staff and one of the company directors even worse than the staff. I will never visit this place again. I would sooner sleep in the car or pay three times as much for slime thing better.

Room Tip: Can't think of one tip except avoid it if you can

The Ritz is an older hotel and the bedrooms are in need of refurbishment. It is in a good location for the city and waterfront. Plenty of taxis outside the hotel, costs about 50 Rand to the waterfront. It has its own parking however there is a nightly fee. There are plenty of restaurants to choose from along Main Road, we didn't venture to far at night on foot for safety reasons, but the ones we did go into were fine. St Elmos good for pizza and pasta, Chinese across the road was lovely and Paddys Bar was good too.
The restaurant at the top on 21st floor is revolving with spectacular views and delicious food, you will need to book (we had no problem)
The rooms have aircon which is needed, leaving the windows open at night is not an option as there is quite a bit of noise from outside. Most of it from the aircon fan on the roof above the laundry.
The showers have a good pressure and the bath will fill in less than a minute.
The pool is adequate for a small number of people but again in need of refurbishment as are the sun beds many of which are broken. Beware of broken glass outside I had to ask them to brush the decking area up twice due to broken glass on there (they shouldn't allow glass outside - plastic cups would be much more appropriate)
There were tour groups there several times during our stay, this can make the hotel noisy and the breakfast area very busy if you are in there at the same time) The breakfast was good.

We were first allocated room 1305 (the bathroom is old and tired, the windows don't work properly and its next to the noisy lift shaft - avoid this room) We asked to be given another room preferably ending with 01 or 02, we were soon allocated 1502, this is a much nicer room with fabulous views over to Mouille Point on one side and the stadium and city on the other side. Our towels and bedding were always clean, had to ask for hand towels a couple of times.
You really need a car in Cape Town to be able to get about properly (the driving is terrible, they think nothing of going through a red light or cutting across in front of you - be aware of that and you will be fine) The sightseeing city hopper bus is good value and worth going on.
We had a pleasant stay here, its pretty basic but we were out sightseeing everyday so its location was a brilliant base for us

Room Tip: Ask for a room on a higher floor ending with 01,02, 11 or 12 these are the better corner rooms.

Terrible hotel, terrible service and looks nothing like the pictures. I stayed there for six days and everyday I asked for the safe to be fixed and was promised it would be done immediately and it never was. Towels were thread bear and had massive holes in them. Draws had been smashed and no tv remote. We booked a room with a double bed and got two single beds. When we asked to see the manager we were told everyday that he wasn't in. The pictures of this hotel must have been taken 50years ago because it is old and run down and looks nothing like the advertisement. Even a backpackers would be more comfortable than this place.

Room Tip: Don't book at this hotel.

My boyfriend lives in Australia and we decided to go to Cape Town and stay somewhere special on his last night in SA. Unfortunately we believed everything the website said about the Ritz Hotel...We were very very dissapointed.

The reception desk looked like a scene out of Fawlty Towers...Not a single receptionist looked like she knew what she was doing. It took us ages to check in. After what seemed like a lifetime, we got our room key only to find a dirty room which haven't been serviced. When we got another room I realized there were no hairdryer and only one big towel...I called reception and needless to say, the problem wasn't fixed. We asked a receptionist to order us a taxi, which we couldn't find when we wanted to get to our restaurant. The next morning we got woken up by a knock on the door; turned out to be the service lady knocking on all the doors to see if there's people in the room or not so she can start cleaning! Apparently there's not system what or ever in this hotel! Our room was worn out and old and only half the lights in the hallways and elevator were working.
We were so looking forward to a special experience and we got a terrible one instead.
The Ritz Hotel is in serious need of new receptionists and maintenance.
I would not recommend this hotel to anybody and would never ever visit the Cape Town Ritz Hotel again.

Room Tip: Do yourself a favour and choose one of the many other hotels in Sea Point.
