Having recently stayed at the Cape Town ritz for 2 weeks I think some reviews are a little unfair. I found the hotel staff very welcoming and friendly and that courtesy from guests go a long way. Excellent location V & A long street and Clifton and camps bay all within a short car journey. The hotel could do with updating but this is a 3 star so the price reflects this. The rooms were clean air conditioning, tv and a reasonable size bathroom with fantastic views of sea point and the stadium. Yes the rooms were dated but again this is reflected in the price. We had an issue with the safe and air conditioning unit but these were delt with quickly and efficiently.
Breakfast could be busy on times but always managed to get a table good selection of food on offer and what I choose was perfectly acceptable, my only complaint was staff were very slow to re stock food and had to be promoted by guests on a number of occasions to refill food items.
We ate at the top of the ritz restaurant which we found was excellent ,good quality food ,excellent service and fabulous views and very reasonably priced by UK prices the bars at the hotel were also good value don't miss happy hour.
Did not use the pool area as was busy sightseeing found the free wi fi in the lobby and bar very useful hotel could be busy on weekends but did not find this a problem there is also good variety of bars and restaurants in sea point if you have had a long day and don't want to go far.
taxi to V and A was about 50 rand there is also the my citi bus service ok in the day but would not recommend in the night sporadic service at best and I waited well over 1/2 hour on few occasions when buses were supposed to run every 15 mins, if you value your time get a taxi.
I would also highly recommend the hop on hop off bus excellent value was about £15 for two days and you could use blue route which you can go to the constantia winery and township tour which we really enjoyed. Red route took you round the city with an evening tour ending with a sunset at signal hill. Would recommend robin island and trip to the wine lands so much to see and do.
Really enjoyed my time in Cape Town can't wait to come back and I would stay at the ritz again
