“Another great stay at the Commodore”
Reviewed 2 June 2011

This is the second time we've stayed at The Commodore. Once again it was our last stop on a busy touring holiday of South Africa and time for a few days R & R.
This hotel is just superb. Check in, Concierge, service, Management, Guest Relations, you name it, the standard of service is just so good here. Nothing is too much trouble and all of the staff operate together like a well oiled machine. They all make you feel like a valued guest and not just another customer. Nothing is too much trouble.
The rooms are light and fresh well cleaned and sheets changed daily. The breakfast buffet is great and service in the dining room excellent.
Lovely reception, lounge bar, outdoor pool spa and gym. Hotel location is perfect for the Waterfront and local amenities are just a few steps away.
We would highly recommend this hotel. We're already planning our next trip to SA and wouldn't consider staying anywhere else in Cape Town.

Thank you for such wonderful compliments, it really is a great feeling knowiing that we were in some way or another able to add something to your vacation. I must mention that as you say the service was superb, I can honestly say that it boils down to the staff wanting to go the extra mile and wanting to make a difference.

Your review is much appriciated and brought many smiles to the team

Hotel is very close to the Waterfront. It is a little bit old.
The Air Conditioning has its own personality, but it at least it did not went on strike.

Breakfast is very good.

Very nice hotel.Couldn't fault it. Pool was not heated so don't planto swim in winter months. Rooms spacious and very clean. Friendly staff, top service.Excellent unbeatable value if you want to be closeto waterfront action. Highly recommended - we'd definitely go back.

We were to stay at the Commodore for our last 2 nights of our 14 day sojourn in South Africa. While on a wine country tour at the start of our visit, a couple of people had intimated the Commodore was good but wasn't the best of quality. So we had a few reservations about what we'd find. However, I'm pleased to say, we had a lovely stay in this hotel. The concierge guys were great - on arrival, departure and during our stay organising cabs and so forth. The lobby area is just what you'd imagine with a name like Commodore - quite masculine, traditional and naval. Our rooms were very comfortable but the only problem was they were not air conditioned; they had a "blower" that looked like air con but it only afforded minor cooling. I simply slept with a sheet rather than the duvet and it was fine but proper air con would have made all the difference. We had a meal in the hotel on our first night and the service was excellent and a very decent meal too. The barmaid didn't know how to make a Manhattan and neither did her boss but we showed them how and they appreciated it! Small pool area but very nice with excellent shower rooms and changing area if you have a late departure. OK, there are other hotels at the Waterfront that offer posher rooms and posher service but if you're out and about all day, do you really need this? By the way, next time we go to Cape Town, think we'll stay up town. Waterfront is really touristy.

What a pleasent review, it really was great to know that we exceeded your expectations, pity about the air conditioner , although happy to stay that we are in the process of replacing them with newer models.

I can honestly say that I our staff play a big role in ensuring the sucess of the hotel and making our guests feel that they are part of the Legacy Family.

The room was quiet which is what I asked for. It was a good size nicely furnished with a lovely view towards the sea. It also had a small balcony.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the top floor.

At the beginning of our stay in Cape Town we had 4 nights (3 people) in an apartment at the Waterfront marina area, which was most economical choice for us. We were returning 1 week later for 2 nights and as apartment was not available, rang the Commodore (we had seen its sign from a distance) due to its location near the Waterfront to see if they had a room which would accommodate 3. They didn't but he said he would offer a good deal, and so we decided to take it. The location is ideal - quick walk to centre of action at V & A Waterfront. Secure. Staff super friendly and helpful. Breakfast was included and was fine. Parking was available @ 75 rand per day - and concierge park it and get it for you when you need it. I forgot to ask for non smoking, and upon entry to our room, realised - rang reception and it was not a problem we were moved straight away, even though we had checked in a bit early. If this hotel suits your budget, don't hesitate to book it, as we found it very friendly, relaxed, effecient and well located.

Room Tip: Non smoking (3rd floor).

If you like firm beds this one's for you - if you don't there's not much you can do about it. Room was a little small for my liking but the good thing was an openable window. It's in a tourist-oriented area, so you're away from the more genuine Cape Town, although it is only a 20 minute walk away. If you're concerned about security and personal safety, then a touristy area is probably a good place to stay. It's a five minute walk to the V&A Waterfront, and lots of shops if this is your bent. Staff were quite friendly altho didn't always re-stock the makings of coffee and tea, and on two of the six days had to ask for this to be done. Rooms were kept neat and tidy. Ordered room service once and it was prompt and also good quality food.
