Of course I'm staying in Capetown so it has to be the Commodore, now for around 6 or 7 times. Slightly tired charm, but this time with less evidence of package tourists, and seemingly more business folk. Service in the breakfast room was a little better than last time, but then there were far fewer people too.

The twin beds in the rooms are much less comfortable than the doubles, but thankfully firmer rather than softer. The room service remains eccentric tho. It's a trivial example but........in your room you get two free bottles of water per day, one still one sparkling. I prefer sparkling water and had taken a couple of swigs out of the bottle, leaving the rest for later. So the evening room service come round, remove the unfinished sparkling water (which is clearly my preference) and leave me with the still bottle.........

The London flight gets in at 9.30 and I always request an early check in. Every time they forget this written instruction and I end up hanging around whilst a room is sorted for me. The Wi Fi is pathetic, totally inadequate for streaming music or fading in and out in the bar /lobby area.

The location tho is about as perfect as it gets, being a stone's throw from the V and A Waterfront. And you will get a huge portion of peanuts with a drink from the bar!

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms on front by the road

We stayed here for two nights on our Collette tour of South Africa. This is a nice hotel, not spectacular, but nice. It had everything we needed - comfortable beds, good breakfast, etc. However, location is the key to the Commodore. This is a great location. It is a very short and safe walk to the V&A waterfront where we had a great supper at the Baia Restaurant.

We stayed in this hotel for three nights two weeks ago. The location is superb and the service excellent including the concierge who gave good advice on trips. The rooms are standard, with comfortable beds, but the public areas are lovely, particularly outside. I would definitely return.

I stayed at the Commodore for a week in December - the staff was really hospitable and helpful. The price was unbeatable especially considering the prime location (V&A Waterfront is a 2 minute walk from the hotel). There are a number of great places to eat in the area. We were very pleased with our stay!

The Commodore has the following going for it:

- Price
- Location (brilliant for the V&A Waterfront)
- Friendly staff
- Decent breakfast

Not so good:

- Tired rooms
- Tiny swimming pool

However, I would use it again on the good points alone.

We stayed here for only two nights during our trip to Cape Town. From arrival to departure, the staff couldn't do enough for us. Special mention to Laurien on the tourism desk who helped us arrange our shark trip and was incredibly helpful to us throughout our stay.

The room was bright with an amazing view of Table Mountain although we were provided two single beds instead of a double. We just put up with this to keep the beautiful view!

Breakfast was superb. Full english, fruit, pastries, juices, smoothies. I was really impressed and the staff were quick to bring tea and coffee once you sat down.

We ate lunch here as well which was tasty and reasonably priced.

All in all, a gorgeous hotel with wonderful staff. We'd definitely return.

We found the Commodore a comfortable hotel, descent sized rooms, friendly staff, especially the concierge, a very helpful travel desk and our rooms were kept to the highest standard of cleanliness.
A short and safe 3 minute walk to the waterfront it suited our purpose as a second home for our 10 days in Cape Town.
Very good breakfast, we used the Clipper restaurant once for dinner, overall a very pleasant stay and good value for money.
