“Nice place, poor service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 November 2011

Our room was large with a great view of Table Mountain. The parking was easy and well organised on the whole. Service inside the hotel was less good and we got the impression they
were under-staffed. The fruit juice at breakfast was awful - more like squash - which you don't expect in a country with so much fresh fruit and a high quality hotel. Would recommend it for the position but not great value for money.

We had an amazingly classy stay for 5 restful & memorable nights at the V&A Waterfront over 5th to 9th Nov. Every which way one sees it, this hotel far far exceeded our expectations....the Breakfast spread, the quality of service, the welcoming smiles of the staff, the well appointed room with an AWESOME view of the Table Mountain in the 'Mountain view' room we had specifically sought (Thank you V&A for remembering!), the hi-end toiletries, the restful comfy beds(made in heaven?).....the list goes on & on. Wanna take a break? Just sit at your window for 'people watching' or take in the sights of the harbour (If you're lucky, a seal will perform a trick or two for you!!) or the several 'rowing teams' displaying their skills....all of which comes 'attached' to your mountain-view! If you step out, you get a breathtaking range of restaurants & shops (including African Crafts) & free jazz & music concerts just a few meters away! A truly memorable time at the V&A. You bet, we're bound to repeat this sometime soon....

Room Tip: Nothing beats the 'Mountain view'

Check in was a pain free quick process. Front desk was not all that impressive though and a little decor there would have brightened it up a bit. Hot water was a constant issue but if you like luke warm showers or baths then all is well. Seemed to depend on time of day.
After the second day my wife and I found at least 10 bed bug bites each on our bodies. We asked for the bed to be changed or for a new room. The bedding was changed with no further bites but no apology from the hotel. One staff member also tried to indicate that it may have been a spider bite! Breakfast had a great selection (with Bucks fizz and oysters on offer) but staff were not helpful or attentive. The saving grace for this hotel was the location and view but for the price you pay I would not consider it worthwhile.

Room Tip: Choose a room with no bed bugs

The location of this hotel is great - right on the waterfront. The check in was easy, the hotel very clean and modern feeling. We were in a "loft" room - that means on the top floor, with a severely sloping ceiling, so that was a big disappointment. Someone booked this for us, and I believe these rooms were cheaper, but after seeing our room and a regular room, it is probably worth paying for a full sized room. The included breakfast was terrific, and one night we ate in the hotel and found the food to be excellent. The wi-fi (free) was disappointingly slow. Make sure you ask for a room on the water front - the city side faces a big ferris wheel with bright lights beaming in your room. For seinfeld fans, think "kenny rogers chicken". (google it!) All in all, nice, but for the price, disappointed by the room.

Room Tip: Ask for the waterfront side. Avoid the lofted rooms unless the price tradeoff makes it worth it.

The Grand Dame of the waterfront.....everything you need is a short walk away after enjoying a lovely breakfast with great varieties of cold and hot classics to choose from including bucks fizz and oysters overlooking the mountains and harbour.......I could have stayed all day!! If you're looking for peace and quiet during the day though it's not for you asI had a range of musicians and entertainers outside the window in the piazza but they did finish early. Lovely big rooms, great shower and a big comfortable bed. Television seemed to have different channels at varying times but then you don't come to Capetown to watch televison. A good variety of channels including Sky and CNN. Overall a great experience.

Room Tip: Rooms facing car park/piazza can be a little noisy with entertainers/musicians as windows are not do...

I stay in hotels a lot and it's rare to find a place I wish I could stay at more often. The V&A is such a place. The location is absolutely the most stunning I have ever seen, the bay and table mountain perfectly framed in a beautiful blue sky. The seals playing in the bay right outside the hotel (you can sit and eat breakfast watching them). The rooms are all of a very high wuality and NOTHING is too much trouble for the staff. The Waterfront, in which the hotel sits, is full of life, restaurants, bars and shops selling the best tourist gear I have ever seen. In case it isn't clear from this - I love this hotel. I've stayed seveal times but wish it had been more. A nice touch is, on each return visit, a card is delivered "welcoming me back". Go there. You will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: The attic rooms are the smallest (cheapest) but still more than adequate. The rooms facing the bay a...
