Our room had a magnificent view of Table Mtn, the waterfront and Victoria Basin. I found the room a little dark and the bathroom a bit tired looking but overall it was spacious and most of all, the hotel was in a great location.
The buffet breakfast, included in our room rate, was the best we encountered in South Africa: fresh oysters, cold cuts, cheeses, cereals, fresh fruits, sparkling wine as well as a juices and hot made to order food - a great way to start the day.
Lots of activity in this area of the waterfront from early morning to late at night. Restaurants galore, live street entertainment, a pub, aquarium, craft centre and a shopping centre within easy walking distance. We visited the nearby sister hotel, The Victoria, to use the pool. We weren't impressed with this hotel itself but found the grounds charming.
We had heard that the waterfront area might not be a safe locale and were advised to stay further up the mountain in a boutique hotel - total mis information. Luckily we didn't take that advice and had a fabulous time at the V&A.
Although the hotel was very busy the staff were most friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: the front entrance of the hotel is quite noisy so i think the rooms on the water side would be more...

V & A is on the water front - a perfect location on the water front with plenty of bars & restaurants, shopping mall and a ferry to catch to Robyn Island. The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is superb and you can have a champagne breakfast too. Easy to get eny where from this location. A very safe area to walk around in the night too. Definately stay at this hotel again.

We were upgraded to a mountain facing room and that improved our stay immensely. Would return to this hotel again noting the parking when you first arrive can be confusing. You just park up at the front and a valet sites the car for you. We had a meal in the restaurant for one night and that was very good value. The breakfast was also great.

We found the room a little tired but it was clean and the shower was good. Unfortunately the best was a bit lumpy and quite soft [unlike others found on our holiday]. The staff were very friendly.

We had a hired car but first day of arrival used the hop on hop off bus [red route] to see the town centre and Table Mountain. The buses are very frequent [say every ten minutes].

The water front is very safe even at night but there are people walking about asking for money.

Room Tip: The second floor mountain facing rooms appear to be the best option as the windows are only single g...

We stayed one night at this lovely hotel and would highly recommend it to anyone. The rooms are spacious and the location is fantastic, we walked to the shops and restaurants in the area. Breakfast was delicious but the service in the restaurant was shocking. Check in staff friendly, Will go back.

Stayed at the V & A Waterfront with a tour group during September 2013. Staff were very helpful, restaurant was excellent. Had a security problem, with two of our group having money and sunglasses stolen from their room. reported this to Management, and they called the Police. My advice... dont leave anythng of value where the housemaids can see it.
Keep it with you, or lock it up. The housemaid found some money one of our group had hidden in the bottom of her case, so she housemaid obviously went searching for stuff. This should not happen at a hotel of this quality.

Stayed here for a meeting for 5 nights. Our room was clean and spacious but faced the front courtyard and could be noisy at times so make sure you get a room facing the water. The breakfast had a great variety of foods and you could order hot food too which as included with your room. The only reason this is not a 5 star is that we had turndown service just 1 night of the 5,and there is no makeup mirror. We did have a problem with our toilet flushing and the manager came right away and fixed it. In the US, that'd is unheard of. The rest of the staff is very helpful too. Located close to shops and waterfront make this a great place t stay.

We loved the Victoria & Alfred hotel. It was in a fantastic location and the room was lovely. The staff could not have been more accomodating and helpful. They were all courteous, friendly, professional and went out of their way to assist in any way they could. The room was large with beautiful windows with a nice view, the amenities were great and loved the shower and bathtub. Breakfast was delicious and the view outstanding. Dinner was reasonably priced and delicious as well. I highly recommend this hotel to others and would love to stay there again.
