5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 May 2014

The hotel is in an excellent position with in the water front, plenty of restaurants and shops with in walking distance. The hotel pool is across the road within a beautiful setting, and it is well worth visiting, even to just to sit and read in the sun. The room was clean and comfortable just as you would expect, for this type of hotel.
On a negative note,
I had arranged well before hand and confirm in writing and verbally when I arrived at the hotel for a hotel shuttle pick up for my husband who arrived at Cape Town Airport very late at night. The shuttle was nowhere to be seen and it was only after a number of phone calls, which were expensive on UK mobiles, that the shuttle arrived. It also cost 50% more than a local taxi would have cost. Next time we will use UniCabs! When I complained the hotel did reduce the shuttle cost, but they didn't offer too.

Room Tip: Do not book a cheaper room on the 3rd floor, the views on lower floors are great.

Dear Katherine

Thank you for your review. Our sincere apologies regarding the pick up, this is not the standard of service we have become so well known for.
We are very happy that you enjoyed the rest of your stay with us.

Kind regards

The V&A Waterfront is the premier location in Cape Town, overlooking Table Mountain and hugging the working fishing harbour. The V&A hotel was a fomer warehouse which has been tastefully transformed into a relaxed but elegant hotel. No ostentatious lobbies and grand sweeping stair cases. Elements of the warehouse remain, retaining the character. The rooms are comfortable and have all the qualities I look for in a good hotel. Pristine good linen, snow white snuggly bath robes, nice enough toiletries (maybe they could splash out a bit here - L'Occitane or Crabtree & Evelyn??). I like the separate toilet with a handbasin, good water pressure in the shower, lots of good wooden hangers, an umbrella in the cupboard. The rooms are well serviced with a night time turn down and always complimentary bottled water. Good simple to use wifi (I'm sick to death of hotels who charge for this service, or have a user-unfriendly system). It's worth the extra cost for breakfast - coming from a non-breakfast eater. A very late breakfast worked for me. Enormous choice, but really appreciated the fresh fruits , fruit juices and yogurts. Yes , they do a very good cooked breakfast. (Bubbly is also available at breakfast). The scenery from the dining room is stunning - the fishing boat harbour and Table Mountain. You can also sit outside and enjoy breakfast and the scenery. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I appreciated the service at the travel desk to book tours and offer advice. I travelled on my own for part of the time, and as a female felt extremely safe wandering around the V&A waterfront at night on my own. You have access to a multitude of excellent restaurants and shopping second to none. Frankly, I could not have thought of a better place to stay and will definitely return.

Room Tip: Deluxe rooms overlooking the piaza

A little screw-up with the room not made up upon our 10pm arrival, and a required room change after 2 days
(Out of a 5 night stay). Other than that, it's a great hotel. Reasonably priced, a staff that is so pleasant & friendly, that nothing is too much to ask for. Cleaner than you can imagine, and great breakfast included.
Two concierges, Liezel and ? who were so efficient and helpful made our stay just great. Location is unbeatable. We would (will) return here without question.

The hotel has a great location! Lots of restaurants nearby to chose from. The rooms are a good size and the bathrooms are really nice. The breakfast was very fresh and had a huge variety. It was a lovely experience.

With numerous bars, restaurant and shops on your door step this is the hotel to stay at. Only 30sec walk to Nelson Mandela Robben Island ferry.

Room was good standard. Very nice bathroom.

View from our room was spectacular - straight at table mountain.

I have rather mixed feelings about this hotel...

This was our first stop after our safari, so we were already tired and in need of a rest.

First things first, I could (and will) stereotype the hotel, and say we didn't fit in - we weren't in Gucci shorts or Armani flip-flops - we were looking rather dishevelled in combats and dusty jumpers.
At check-in the reception chap commented that we were staying for a "Whopping" 4 nights.... his words not mine.
I really don't know what to make of this... My wife suggested that it was more of a 'weekend' hotel and 4 nights is perhaps unusual and he genuinely meant it.... on the flip-side I thought he meant "is that all?".

Anyway, we went up to our room - 213, second floor directly above the hotel yacht with unrivalled views of Table mountain - I won't go on about how good the views are, as all the reviews here will say it, but it really is quite spectacular!

The rooms are large and airy, beds comfortable, and all exceptionally clean.
The bathrooms were spotless and all in good order.
can't say much more than that, but the rooms certainly measure up to the acclaimed 5* rating.

Breakfast, once more we were reminded of 'our place'... I came down for breakfast in my red 'o-neil' t-shirt and shorts, with my wife also dressed suitably casual - after all we were only going to go for a wander around the town later.
We were asked for our room number, fine, nothing wrong with that... but then when my wife went up for breakfast she was asked for our room number again, by the very same lady who asked us 5 minutes before... what didn't she believe us?
I'm sure I read more into that and it was a genuine oversight, but it really made us feel like we didn't belong.
We only got asked on one of the 3 days we had breakfast (we missed one) if we wanted anything from the menu, which I was a bit disappointed with, and we also had to 'find' someone to ask for our coffee too.

Service aside, the breakfast spread was incredible... seriously I have never seen a spread like it.
Every fruit you could think of, lots of cereal, meats, cheeses, breads, all juices, champagne - it really was unbelievable!
So all credit to having this spread, and it actually meant that we didn't need to order a cooked breakfast as there was so much fresh food on offer!.

We didn't eat any dinner in the restaurant because we didn't want to dress up!, so we headed over to Victoria Wharf to eat every night.

I would like to balance my earlier comments about the service up, and say that the attendants/staff outside the hotel were great, always friendly and happy to flag us a Taxi and 'talk' to the drivers to make sure we didn't get ripped off (which happens a lot).

I've dropped this a "star" purely because of our feelings towards the service/comments, but the hotel is first class with first class views (and should be for the price!)

Room Tip: Definitely get a mountain view room, second floor (not loft room) - our 213 was 'ideal' in o...

Having a room with a perfect view of a World Heritage site is hard to put into words, but when you add the sleepy harbor just a stone's throw away, and the seals gracefully entertaining passersby, the smell of the ocean all while ensconced in a very spacious and meticulously clean hotel room, it becomes even more difficult.
Located on the very edge of the vibrant Water Front shopping and entertainment complex - just far enough away not to be disturbed by the many activities, but at the same time barely a 5 minute walk from the center, the V&A has to be one of the most desirable hotels in the city.
This hotel possibly serves one of the most mouthwatering breakfasts in the entire country !
I stridently urge visitors to Cape Town to treat themselves to a magnificent experience.

Room Tip: Try and get a harbor view room, which will also give you a view of magnificent Table Mountain
