“Excellent Stay”
Reviewed 27 April 2014

Stayed here for 5 nights, booked as a package through Kulula. Great hotel, friendly staff, comfortable beds. In an excellent location. Only downsides were the prices of parking and breakfast - but other than that, can't fault it!

We stayed here for one week. Staff were great, friendly and very helpful. Room was adequate , great view of the sea front. Bathroom was small but wasn't a problem. Breakfasts were really good. Would definitely recommend this hotel to stay at. Location was also great.

We stayed here for five nights in a family room with 2 kids. The hotel was always clean and the staff were very helpful. The pool is small but it enough for our kids to play in and the pool area has lovely views of the Lions Head mountain. The breakfast was reasonably priced but only because the kids ate free, there was a good selection of food. The room was nice but it was a shame that the family rooms seem to be out the back of the hotel so no balcony or views. The bed was incredibly comfortable and huge!! Although it's not a beachfront hotel, it's a 30sec walk to it and also well placed for the local shops. We would definitely stay here again.

The room we had was comfortable, modern and clean. Looks like it was recently refurshed. Fabulous bathroom/shower. Staff are very friendly and helpful. I would stay again. The location is good for varios sightseeing trips around the cape. We never ate there. I think the bar/foyer layout could be better but that didn't detract from the stay.

We would stay again.

Room Tip: We asked for an got a room on the fifth floor - quiet, comfortable.

We stayed at this hotel for two nights as part of our South Africa tour with Thompson's Africa. The location is good, just 70 yards from the beach, and the red tour buses. The rooms however are small, a big problem if you have two suitcases. The bathroom is also small and the shower completely inadequate with tepid water dribbling out from the shower head. Have power showers not made their way to South Africa yest? Breakfasts were very good with sugar free preserves available. What saves this hotel is its wonderful accommodating staff who couldn't be more helpful. We had late evening flights and the staff stored our cases and valuables for our final day and provided showers and changing facilities before setting off to the airport. They could not have been more helpful, what a great advert they are for the Protea group of hotels.

I was on business in Cape Town and spent 3 nights in Sea Point. This hotel has an excellent location and a friendly and accommodating staff, but it wasn't conducive to working (or sleeping).

I found the room cramped not only because of its size but also because the plastic desk chair barely fit in the space between the bed and desk (I uploaded a photo) and it was difficult to either use the desk or pass by from one side of the room to another. Fortunately I had ordered a larger 'superior' room - I later saw that the regular rooms are really small. The 'balcony' of the superior room is not large enough to sit on, but was large enough for my next-door neighbors to stand on and talk loudly at 2:15 in the morning. The rooms on this side face the street and there is street noise (because of the restaurant next door) every evening until after midnight.

I found the room uncomfortable because besides the hard plastic desk chair the other chair in the room was this odd thing about as wide as an airline economy seat with high walls so if your shoulders (or hips) are wider than an airline economy seat you can't sit in it. On my second day they found me another chair to use - a conference room chair that was better than the hard plastic one. Also the mattress sloped down (a little) on both sides of the bed - not a disaster but not great.

The air conditioner was a new programmable inverter model and worked very well without too much noise.

The good:The hotel is cute and we loved the location and free wifi. We also enjoyed the awesome breakfast each morning. The drawbacks : the rooms are small and a bit hard to navigate with large luggage and we received a room with twin beds. We called the front desk on the first night to request a room with one bed a we were told that the bed would be converted. The employee never arrived to adjust the bed. We were so busy we just ended up leaving the room as it was for the three nights that we were there. I would also love to have a iron and ironing board in my room. None of the Protea hotels that we stayed at had irons in the rooms. Calling the front desk each day was not a big deal but I would rather not have to.

Overall I liked the hotel.
