“Great location!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 July 2013 via mobile

My husband and I stayed here in June of 2009 and had a great time. Great location and perfectly situated near all the touristy things that you are in CT to see. The staff were helpful and breakfast was great, although simple. Our room was amazing and we must have been upgraded because we had a huge room with a private balcony across the whole front of the building. It's been a while sine our trip, but highly recommend.

What a beautiful surprise in the center of Cape Town (on the historic Greenmarket Square). The city's oldest hotel has been newly decorated in the practical old Cape Dutch style and has a welcoming intimate atmosphere and helpful, friends staff. Our room (404) had two windows which invited the sounds of the city (use earplugs if you are a light sleeper), but offered a privileged view of the square and its curio market. Breakfast was ample and the position is perfect to explore the city's charms on foot.

Hotel is almost on Greenmarket Square, very good for tourists. Reception area were small, cause this is a very old hotel, but it has been newly renovated. Breakfast was good. The room was huge & had all the basic amenities. One thing that short in the room was a bar fridge. Little bit noisy at night from the nightlife in Long Street. Very central & I even walked to the waterfront from here, good exercise.

I was very pleasantly surprised when checking in to the Tudor. The hotel has been newly renovated and the decor and fittings are lovely, there was a brand new air conditioner in my room and the shower pressure was awesome. I've found the staff extremely helpful and they have made a number of bookings for me. There is a little noise from the street, so I wouldn't recommend a street facing room to light sleepers, but a small sacrifice for the central location.

I stayed for 5 nights in Cape Town in Feb 2013. I found the hotel pretty good, large rooms with basic amenities, clean and good service. Breakfast was good. Excellent location and within walking distance to many places and almost on Long street, the happening place in Cape Town with a lot of restaurants and bars. TV channels could be better. No free internet, but the paid WiFi was good and served my business purpose.

If you are not looking for a very fancy hotel and with a budget in mind, certainly Tudor is worth a stay.

Room Tip: If you can select a room that is not facing the market, you could avoid the noise.

I had read mixed reviews on TripAdvisor about this place but wondered if people were used to "more stars" in their hotels. I love the location of this place and because the cost was low for an impromptu trip, I decided to book it.

Now, I had read that it was "loud." I assumed that the reviewer may not have been used to street noise, which I happen to find to be "white noise" and sleep inducing. Well, loud was an understatement. The windows literally open to where you can jump out. There's little to block the noise in regard to the windows. All I heard all night [yes, I was awake the entire night] was the workers leaving the market screaming. It was not the tourists, as I had expected to hear as the hours waned into early morning and bars were closing.

The hotel itself felt weird. When we left for dinner and walked out, we were asked for our key. We were not allowed to leave with our key. Weird.

The room was fair. The bathroom was poor. The shower had a curtain that opened to the outside with little barrier so when I got out of the shower, despite how careful I had been, the floor was soaked.

We went to breakfast the next morning and it was of poor variety and quality. We wound up paying for breakfast afterward. The staff working that morning were not friendly and appeared as if it was an inconvenience to assist us in any way.

The staff was fair so no hospitality made up for the deficits elsewhere.

Tudor Hotel is not for the folks who want to be pampered and followed around by adoring staff at every moment. Instead it is for the travellers who prefer appropriately cordial staff, a solid breakfast, terrific location but without any of the pomp that is usually associated with the "downtown" chains. This is NOT corporate! Not frilly! Doesn't smell like cleaning chemicals ... just a good price for a good room in a great place. AND THE WINDOWS ACTUALLY WORK!

Room Tip: Overlooking Greenmarket Square is exciting but can be noisy at 6 AM.
