“Great little hotel”
Reviewed 1 October 2011

We stayed here for 3 nights and really enjoyed it - the rooms have bags of character (we were in room 104 which was simply stunning) and the staff are very friendly and helpful.

Location is good, 20min walk to the waterfront, 10min walk to slave lodge, 5min walk to local bus stops for City Sightseeing or feeder route into the civic centre. Good restaurants within the historic square - African Cafe is a very good 'all you can eat' african buffet with cheap drinks, buffet itself is RND 245pp (which isn't written down anywhere!), food isn't of top quality but for the overall experience well worth doing. Savoy Cabbage is more upmarket, around RND 180 for a main but excellent service and quality. There is also a wine bar in the square itself which serves good cheap eats and tapas......you really don't need to leave the hotel site in the evening to eat varied, good quality meals.......which is a good thing as I wouldn't feel that confident walking around Cape Town at night especially having been threatened in broad daylight (in the Companys Gardens) by someone looking for money (he didn't get anything from us!) when there were tens of people in the area! Breakfast in the hotel is also varied and of good quality but the full English seemed to arrive cold each morning (possibly due them waiting to deliver both breakfasts together).

Only other minor gripe with the hotel - internet terminal temperamental. Overall, a great little find in a handy spot in Cape Town, 4.5 stars.

We stayed at this private and comfortable hotel in downtown Cape Town. The rooms are decorated with unique designs. The breakfast is excellent and its your choice between cold and warm breakfast. The water front is only a 15 minute walk away. The hotel could use fresh carpeting and the entrance needs some updating. If you are looking for a private and nice hotel then try the Cape Heritage Hotel.

Since the first contacts via email with Kelly and Jeanne-Marie till the end of our 5-day stay, our stay at this hotel was excellent.
Very well located, can walk to everywhere.
Rooms very unique, perfect decoration and as we were a group of 19 people, I could visit many rooms.
Breakfast delicious and abundant. We were always out of time but the staff was always smiling to us.
Really, loved loved the stay at this cozy hotel.
I would there again and again!

Despite the title of the review, I believe it's good value in any season, but I think I should emphasize this: don't discard staying in this hotel because it looks too fancy (aka expensive). They have really good rates if you book with advance. That's what we did, and the hotel is really all you read about it on reviews and on the website. We stayed in a standard room and really didn't need more than that. Staff was friendly and breakfast was good. I do have one complaint though: we stayed there for 3 nights and the wi-fi was down for the entire stay.

This is a great place to stay. It's a breath of fresh air after the characterless hotel chains. Fabulous decoration - feels luxurious yet self-depricating. Decorated with humour and charm. The staff were great, the breakfast is fantastic and personal. Only niggle is that the parking is a bit of a performance and they charge you for it.

Let me start with saying that this will be our new home everytime we visit Cape Town.

Check in was fast and friendly.

Room ( Junior Suite ) was big and VERY well decorated, then for the main event- The Barthroom, don't know where to start. It's huge, with slipper bath big enough for 2 people, a double shower all in marble, just stunning.

Had a bottle of sparkling wine in our room on arrival, very nice thought.

Breakfast was very nice, smoothies etc. Best coffee I've tasted in a very long time.

Location is brilliant and very central. Parking just around the corner.

Will be back when in Cape Town.

Room Tip: The Junior Suite is just stunning!

This hotel is really beautiful and every comfortable room has its special aesthetic character. The service was perfectly judged: helpful, unobtrusive and charming. The location is great: two blocks from the fun of Long Street and the Waterfront within walkable distance, as are the Company Gardens and various museums. The hotel is surrounded by very good restaurants. A perfect place to stay. We are planning a return....
