We stayed over New Year's holiday so everything in Cape Town was crowded. The hotel has a great location and very comfortable rooms with free wi-fi. Breakfast buffet was excellent. Pool area is very nice, but small for the size of the hotel. Convenient valet parking was great. Very nice for walking to waterfront or taking the shuttle.

The hotel is centrally located and safe for the young ones. The staff make you feel welcome and at home. There is a free hotel shuttle to and from the waterfront. We hired a car and it was easy to move around and see the place which was perfect especially with the kids. There are shuttle services but can be very costly if you like going out a lot.

Welcoming and professional staff, beautiful rooms, yes some rooms have showers that leak but the hotel staff was more than happy to relocate me to a different room. The food is amazing and there is a wide variety of dishes to select from and the is diabetic station fully stocked with healthy low Glycemic Index food. Don't worry they have a entire pork section fully stocked with bacon and sausage. The pool is refreshing and looks great, only down side is that it is not heated.
Great location, you walk across the street to the Convention Center and board a water taxi to the V&A water front, it costs only R 8 or 9 ZAR South African Rands, cheaper than a regular taxi.

Room Tip: Ask for the Top floors. Tip well.

We stayed for 5 nights and overall enjoyed the hotel. The positives: 1) it's in a great location adjacent the Waterfront, with easy access to downtown area, Greenpoint/Sea Point restaurants, beaches and highway to the suburbs, 2) The staff are very friendly and efficient, especially the concierge desk, reception and garage security, 3) The rooms are clean and comfortable and we had a great view from the 12th floor, 4) The beds are super comfortable, with the best pillows and lovely linen, 5) The shower has awesome water pressure!, 6) There is free wifi (with daily limit) which functions smoothly, 7) There is a complimentary shuttle to the V&A Waterfront, which saves you money on the waterfront's rip-off parking charges, 8) On my birthday I received an absolutely delicious chocolate mousse cake courtesy of the hotel's Guest Relations - lovely touch, thank you!!

The negatives: 1) The breakfast room was extremely busy, and on the first day we had to wait 20 minutes to be seated. The access desk also really needed more staff to assist as the lone staff member was not coping. On all days various items on the buffet were slow to be replenished eg: orange juice, glasses, salmon, cheeses, and we would have to wait around for refills. On a positive note, the waiter service was friendly and efficient, and there is a large selection of hot and cold food, including lots of fresh fruit and also gluten free options which was a nice surprise, 2) The pool area is small and you have to arrive early to get a good spot. The pool drinks service was very slow, and one afternoon we were told we would have to wait for soft drinks as there was a photo shoot taking place in the bar - seriously?, 3) The cupboard in the bedroom is really small, not sufficient for 2 people staying for a while, 4) There were never enough bathroom towels for 2 people and we had to keep requesting more, 5) The hairdryer only switches off by pulling plug out the wall - minor issue but very irritating to use, 6) We almost got stuck in the main hotel elevator, and for our last 2 days the elevator to the garage was out of order - maintenance issues?

Overall this hotel is very pleasant and enjoyable. However, we did receive a rather large discount via a loyalty programme, but at full rate (approx ZAR2700 per room/night and breakfast) it is somewhat overpriced - although in fairness hotels in central Cape Town in January are all pricey.

Room Tip: Request a room as high up as possible - better views, less noise.

This was a good choice for me since my focus was on attending a conference which was right across the street. The rooms were nice although the shower leaked water all over the floor which was a surprise at first. But I believe that was just a problem that was not to be fixed. There was a drain which made it ok as long as you didn't mind discarding towels after every shower. Otherwise the room was fine and maintained well.

The breakfast buffet was quite large but things like bacon were not done very well. However there was plenty to choose from. The sandwich shop at the bar/by the pool was very reasonable quality and price - especially for a hotel. I did not try the buffet at night as I didn't want to spend that much - sandwich shop was enough food for me. Although we were there when it was cool (for me) to go swimming, there was a nice pool in an interior courtyard if you wanted to swim.

In general I would recommend it. There were a couple of quirks. I needed to call a number in the US collect as there was a problem with my credit card. They have no way to make an operator-assisted outside call. I had to use Skype to get my husband in the US to call as I cold not get the Skype phone call to work. The other odd thing is that there is no ATM in the hotel. I had to go to the conference center - not a problem for me but if you weren't attending a conference it would be a little odd.

The Step on/Step off tour busses stop right in front of the conference center. This was an easy way to get to Table Mountain and see some of the rest of the city as well!

One of the people at the hotel was mugged about 2 blocks from the hotel. Wasn't hurt but he was threatened with a knife. It looks like a nice area but do NOT go out by yourself at any time except perhaps in the middle of the day.
