“Really nice hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 January 2014

We finished our Honeymoon in Cape Town and four nights in this lovely hotel, I requested a good room with a view and we got it along with rosé petals, chocolates and a bottle of champagne in our room on arrival. The staff are lovely and friendly and will do anything to make your stay a memorable one, great value for money in restaurant and bar. There is a really nice pool area where you can also sit out and have your lunch, they do not have a spa but you can use the sister hotels spa next door. We would highly recommend this hotel.

We visited the Cullinan with a massive group and had many "special requests" and the team made everything happen. The service was top notch!
The location is also good. Close to the convention center and the waterfront.
Special thanks to Stephen and Veronica!

This has been our third year in succession that we were welcomed at the Cullinan by the amazing people on the team. We had an amazing time and we were treated by the staff at any time of the day like royalty. The vibe is great, the value for money is phenomenal. I have recommended this hotel to many friends and relatives and they too have been blown away by the Cullinan. I will definitly come back. My little daughter aged 1yr7months was free to run around the place and and the staff were most gracious and accomodating at every moment. Your 4* rating should be 6* instead. I am looking forward to staying at your suites.Thank You for caring when my little one became ill.Great work guys.

We stayed over New Year's holiday so everything in Cape Town was crowded. The hotel has a great location and very comfortable rooms with free wi-fi. Breakfast buffet was excellent. Pool area is very nice, but small for the size of the hotel. Convenient valet parking was great. Very nice for walking to waterfront or taking the shuttle.

The hotel is centrally located and safe for the young ones. The staff make you feel welcome and at home. There is a free hotel shuttle to and from the waterfront. We hired a car and it was easy to move around and see the place which was perfect especially with the kids. There are shuttle services but can be very costly if you like going out a lot.

Welcoming and professional staff, beautiful rooms, yes some rooms have showers that leak but the hotel staff was more than happy to relocate me to a different room. The food is amazing and there is a wide variety of dishes to select from and the is diabetic station fully stocked with healthy low Glycemic Index food. Don't worry they have a entire pork section fully stocked with bacon and sausage. The pool is refreshing and looks great, only down side is that it is not heated.
Great location, you walk across the street to the Convention Center and board a water taxi to the V&A water front, it costs only R 8 or 9 ZAR South African Rands, cheaper than a regular taxi.

Room Tip: Ask for the Top floors. Tip well.

We stayed for 5 nights and overall enjoyed the hotel. The positives: 1) it's in a great location adjacent the Waterfront, with easy access to downtown area, Greenpoint/Sea Point restaurants, beaches and highway to the suburbs, 2) The staff are very friendly and efficient, especially the concierge desk, reception and garage security, 3) The rooms are clean and comfortable and we had a great view from the 12th floor, 4) The beds are super comfortable, with the best pillows and lovely linen, 5) The shower has awesome water pressure!, 6) There is free wifi (with daily limit) which functions smoothly, 7) There is a complimentary shuttle to the V&A Waterfront, which saves you money on the waterfront's rip-off parking charges, 8) On my birthday I received an absolutely delicious chocolate mousse cake courtesy of the hotel's Guest Relations - lovely touch, thank you!!

The negatives: 1) The breakfast room was extremely busy, and on the first day we had to wait 20 minutes to be seated. The access desk also really needed more staff to assist as the lone staff member was not coping. On all days various items on the buffet were slow to be replenished eg: orange juice, glasses, salmon, cheeses, and we would have to wait around for refills. On a positive note, the waiter service was friendly and efficient, and there is a large selection of hot and cold food, including lots of fresh fruit and also gluten free options which was a nice surprise, 2) The pool area is small and you have to arrive early to get a good spot. The pool drinks service was very slow, and one afternoon we were told we would have to wait for soft drinks as there was a photo shoot taking place in the bar - seriously?, 3) The cupboard in the bedroom is really small, not sufficient for 2 people staying for a while, 4) There were never enough bathroom towels for 2 people and we had to keep requesting more, 5) The hairdryer only switches off by pulling plug out the wall - minor issue but very irritating to use, 6) We almost got stuck in the main hotel elevator, and for our last 2 days the elevator to the garage was out of order - maintenance issues?

Overall this hotel is very pleasant and enjoyable. However, we did receive a rather large discount via a loyalty programme, but at full rate (approx ZAR2700 per room/night and breakfast) it is somewhat overpriced - although in fairness hotels in central Cape Town in January are all pricey.

Room Tip: Request a room as high up as possible - better views, less noise.
