“Great Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 September 2009

My partner was on business in Cape Town and I went along for the ride, so we had no say in where we stayed. Did we luck out. The hotel is located near the waterfront which is great. It is a traditionally modern hotel - very nice public rooms. Our room was slightly smaller than we are used to but the view over the waterfront certainly made up for it.

It was the people that made it so great. EVERYONE was amazing. Every time we came back to the hotel we were greeted not only by the front door team but by all staff in lobby. Not only friendly but efficient. I had ordered a Gin and Dry Lemon in the bar one night. Two nights later I go in and the waiter asked me if I would like my GIn and Dry Lemon. Brilliant. The Concierge Desk was also wonderful. They booked my tours to The Cape, Robben Island and The Karoo which were all very worthwhile. I highly recommend this hotel.

Stayed at the Cullinan for a conference and it was a reasonable business hotel. Public areas are very nice, including attentive service, complimentary sherry and nibbles and a good breakfast. Room was a bit rough round the edges and the cleaning left a lot to be desired - there was somebody else's toenails on my bedroom floor when I arrived! I was nearly sick. Bathroom was large, with a separate shower. Room service brought an iron up immediately when I asked (which I've found to be quite rare). All in all, not bad, but could do with a bit of a tidy up.

Loved this hotel. A big modern hotel in a convenient location. The staff were excellent and very helpful. Breakfast was well organized and well managed. We ate in the hotel restaurant the first night and enjoyed our meal and the service was always with a smile, [usually hotel food can be hit or miss] We also enjoyed our trip down the coast on public transport to see the miniature penguins. We will return so hopefully standards will be maintained.

Spent 7 nights here on a B&B basis as part of a longer holiday. If you don't have a hire car, taxi from airport R250 (£20) including tip. Easy to find by road and easy access to main freeways in/out of Cape Town. We had a great discounted winter deal. Booking in faultless, standard room, very comfy, normal size for 4* with all amenities including bath and separate shower. Overall staff were courteous and extremely helpful. Food and bar prices very resonable about same price as V&A waterfront. Didn't use the hotel room or business center internet but internet cafe prices were 85c per minute. Hotel was packed as this is the official hotel for the Springboks and they were playing the Wallibies. Good location for World Cup final although FIFA have booked most rooms. Nonetheless breakfast was excellent no queue, plenty of food and never felt crowded. Ideal to walk to the waterfront 15 mins but used hotel courtesy bus back after dark. Runs every hour both ways. Plenty of undeground secure car parking for hotel guests at R40 (£3) per night, use room key for access- very cheap! Cannot fault the hotel, only criticism was the concierge could have had more info on some areas, like car hire. Waterfront tourist information office is 10 minute walk and had all the details. If you open your windows the traffic noise on the waterfront side (great view) from the new junction is noisy. Easy answer, close the window or get a room on the other side of the hotel. They arranged luxury car for return to airport for R325 (£26) including airport taxi tax which was not to bad. Overall a great stay in a very comfortable and resonably priced hotel.

As a travel agent I feel I can give a pretty fair assessment having fortunately stayed at many hotels across the world. This one is probably the best city hotel I have stayed in.
The hotel is spotless throughout and the beds are soooo comfortable!
The breakfast is just stunning-there is nothing and I mean nothing that is not available should you so wish. Didnt try the evening fayre because its easy to take the shuttle to the waterfront-which is a must. The staff are all friendly and cant do enough for you. I would definately recommend this hotel for your stay in Cape Town. Feel free to mail me if you have any questions and if you are in the uk and intend to book the Cullinan, then mail me as I can usually book it cheaper than most travel agents!

We stayed in this hotel for one night at the end of our holiday, having stayed in CapeTown at the Radisson for 3 nights at the start. The hotel was exceptionally busy when we were there because the Springboks were staying there, along with a fair whack of their fan base. The hotel is in a pretty good location - easy walk to the V&A or into the main thoroughfares and the staff were friendly, helpful and polite (despite being rushed off their feet at the busiest breakfast we experienced). Our room had an unexceptional view of the waste ground in front of the hotel and it was small compared to the other places we had stayed, however it did have all the requisite amenities and whilst I wouldn't have wanted to stay there for more than a couple of nights, it was perfectly adequate for a one night stop.

The Cullinan is a big 4 star city business hotel adjacent to the international convention centre, close to the Central Business District and a short shuttle ride from the V&A Waterfront. The hotel is part of the Southern Sun group and is professionally managed so standards are set and applied. Rooms are clean, bathrooms generous (shower and bath) - no complaints there. Staff are friendly. Rates are stiff - R1900.00 per night room only for my recent stay.

The Hotel seems to be frequented mainly by conference delegates, business people and government officials. I think the hotel is not very different to similar hotels in all the major cities of the world - there is nothing especially "Cape Town" about it.

I would recommend it to conference delegates and short stay business people. For holiday makers and tourists I think you can get better value elsewhere.
