“Beats any hotel hands down - 5 star accommodation in Cape Town”
Reviewed 19 December 2013

When traveling to Cape Town we always book at Village & Life. The apartments are beautiful the views spectacular. It's right on the V&A Marina and the Waterfront is minutes away. The staff are friendly and efficient. Home away from home. Secure and safe. However this time we did have a problem with the fridge that was not attended to promptly, as they usually do. Despite of that we will never stay anywhere else when in Cape Town. Highly recommended. Compared to staying in any of the 5 star hotels on the V&A Waterfront, Village & Life are the best option and also very reasonable, price wise.

Waterfront apartments are the perfect place to start or end your holiday. Excellent High Class Accommodation and so near the V&A making shopping and eating out a pleasure. Loads of tourist attractions all within open top tour base range.
Secure environment with good parking availability

Room Tip: Rooms on floors 3-4 give best views of the Waterfornt and V&A

Our stay at the waterfront village was completely let down by our check in experience. We arrived in the middle of a storm to find no-one in reception. Waited and waited until we managed to find a security guard who then tried to locate the receptionist. Eventually we got through to the receptionist who said he would be back in 10 minutes. After repeated calls he appeared 30 minutes later. Once checked in he then lead us on a 10 minute walk through the rain storm to the apartment, leaving us to carry our bags with him leading the way. On finally arriving at the gate the security took one look at us and told us he could have used the hotel's car to give us a lift, but obviously that wasn't on the cards.
Tried to get out of the security complex the next morning only to find we were trapped in as the security card had expired and hadn't been updated for our stay, and we were left trapped in for 15 minutes whilst it was resolved.

Once you are inside the apartments they are nice, but the overall management appears to be lacking, just a little forethought, even buying some umbrellas, would go a long way.

I'm used to travelling as a backpacker. Being on my three-week honeymoon vacation I for once had a little bit higher expectations. Recommended by our travel agent for the end of our trip, this should have been an other highlight - especially given the five star rating.
The location is superb and the view of tablemountain from our bedroom was stunning. However the interior looked quite run down, floors were not clean and it smelled of cat (pee). The bedroom had poor sound insulation, we heard traffic throughout the night and the balcony door was vibrating from the wind. Service at reception was very friendly and they allowed us parking the car in their garage even after check-out for a couple of hours. Still, all in all this accomodation unfortunatelly could not live up to expectations.

My wife and I spent the first five nights of our South African trip in this complex and found our apartment to be very nice, comfortable, clean, well furnished and modern. The location was perfect for the V&A Waterfront with its abundance of really nice restaurants and shopping areas. The staff were very helpful and allowed us access to our room before the official check in time as well as giving advice on where to go and things to do. The apartment came with secure underground parking. The views from our apartment were stunning with the waterfront view from the lounge and Table Mountain from our bedroom. The freedom that an apartment gives you when you are staying in a place for a number of days, we believe, far outweighs a hotel room and the Waterfront Village certainly lived up to our expectations. When we return to SA we shall without doubt stay here again.

We stayed here a week or so ago a few days before our safari and had money stolen from the safe! and this isn't the first time this has happened. As safari was coming up we counted out the tips in Rands and put them in separate bundles and back in the cash wallets and in the safe and then went out for the day. When we came back the safe was open and from each of the bundles had money short (we had both counted it out), thankfully none of the other items - cameras and passports - we taken. The way things were done it was clearly an inside job, i guess anyone from outside would have taken all the cash and cameras (and their perimeter security is tight).

The stolen amount was not a big deal but the intrusion was and we called reception. The management policy is to do NOTHING and we were told they would do nothing till we went to the police to lodge a complaint. We were there was no manager there at the time but will be the next day and that.....we can come over to see manager if we like!

The two-bed apartment had 3 sliding doors to the patio and one was left unlocked (again, we'd checked and locked them the night before the theft) and my hold bag's zip was stuck which is a big coincidence as it never had a problem before or since so someone tried to open the bag also.

In conversation with receptionist, she let slip that theft has been going on the complex quite a bit recently - we thought it was outrageous that they hadn't done anything about this or even warned people about this.

In any case we were there another two days and no manager called or came to see us (or leave a note if we were out), which reflects that they don't give a toss. We find their response to this appalling. Don't stay here you are likely to be 'hit' and the worst thing is the way it was done (a few notes from different bundles of cash) most people would not have realise cash was missing either - we only know for certain because we happened to count them out in the morning.
