“Centrally located and quite atmospehric”
Reviewed 16 August 2014

Come and stroll this smallish park in the center of Cape Town. The gardens are beautiful and the church, parliament and slave lodge that abuts this park make it a lovely spot to do sight seeing.

“Garden in the city”
Reviewed 28 July 2014

The gardens themselves are wonderful, the restaurant however needs a little help, menu a little stayed and the service less than one would expect.

“Historical significance”
Reviewed 20 July 2014 via mobile

A short walk through the relatively small gardens is special only if you have a guide to point out the significant events of history that these gardens quietly commemorate. Statues of Cecil Rhodes, Yan Smuts and others plus the President's Office and Parliament House which were sites where Nelson Mandela held meetings that changed history and made famous speeches.
Enjoy the walk down history that is a respite in the centre of town.

“Peace in the centre of a busy city”
Reviewed 8 July 2014

This is one of my most favourite places to visit when I go to Cape Town each year. The place is just very relaxing and chilled out right in the middle of the centre of Cape Town city bowl with fantastic views of both Table Mountain and Lion's Head. At the far end of the gardens is the museum which is well worth a visit; to the side of the gardens you have the historical Government buildings so there is plenty to visit after your relaxing stay under the trees or in the restaurant having a cool refreshing drink. There is some interesting wild-life that visit there, a couple of years ago I came across an albino squirrel which was fascinating to watch running about in the trees and on the ground hunting for food.

The police regularly patrol the area on horse back and you may be lucky and catch a film crew making a film whilst you are there (I did 2 years ago which was interesting to watch).

I would highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to relax in a peaceful place in the centre of the city bowl in beautiful surroundings and just watch the world go by for an hour or two...Go there and enjoy especially in the summer months. I will definitely be going back again and again......

“Small ; nothing special”
Reviewed 27 June 2014

The gardens are not huge. They are relatively small and not a place where you will take time out to visit. Some nice tress, and some very large squirrels that are extremely playful. Unless you are a big fan of squirrels, you can skip the gardens.
