Owner description: Though the beach is still popular, the elegant splendor that once graced this seaside resort community barely shows through the paved-over streets, fast-food eateries and shopping centers.

Each time we drive through the town of Muizenberg, my eyes get stuck on the beautiful train station clock. Although the colored wood houses look beautiful, the beach is just too crowded to dare go there. A train track runs right next to the beach and that is way cool indeed. Of course the sound of the train won't contribute to a relaxing day at the beack, but it really is cool how close the train gets to the actual beach.

Popped in for a quick surf: water was warm, surfers quite friendly and great waves to learn on. Not sure if the town has much else to offer if you're not a surfer - beach was lovely but very crowded and didn't spot many places I would have gone out of my way to explore. The kind of place to pop into to appreciate the surf culture and them move on to the next stop.

Pleasant seaside town which fell into a bit of disrepair in the 1980s & 1990s. Squatters moved in & lots of the properties were deserted & subsequently damaged. But like everything else Muizenberg is now on the "up" with lots of new restaurants & coffee shops as well as a Fri organic market popping up. Give it 5 to 10 years & Muizenberg will be unaffordable for the average person - this seasside village is on the move, upwards.......& why wouldn't it with its fantastic setting in False Bay, outstanding views & one of the best beaches close to Cape Town.....but the surfers discovered this & made Muizenberg their own in the 1960s already......

Every chance I get I am at the berg. It's a great surfers spot and has recently become a great dining place too

Muizemberg beach is on the east coast of South Africa . It is very popular with surfers and there are numerous surf schools in the area . There are also numerous restaurants in the area looking over the beach front . The beach is best visited when the South Easterly wind is not blowing or in the winter months when the swells are bigger and better for surfing . Ample safe parking right next to beach and clean public restrooms also a plus . Can get very busy with locals on the weekend and over school holidays .
