“The Nottre Damme of South Africa!”

The most beautiful stained glass you have ever seen. And the woodwork - amazing! And do not miss the spiraling pathway in the courtyard. It is an interesting and calming experience to walk it.

“Beautiful Church”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 April 2014

This church was started in 1675. In 1644 Organ music was banned in the church but in 1804 the organ was rebuilt and songs were heard again. The cathedral organ, with over 3000 piles is the third largest in South Africa. Bishop Desmond Tutu preaches here and Nelson Mandela has been in the church. the stained glass windows and the hanging cross is beautiful

“Visit for the "inner peace" as they say”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 March 2014

Very near to the one of the best accommodations in Cape Town (The Taj). An hour of slow walk through the company gardens into the St Georges will fill you with freshness. The magnificent beauty of the church with wonderful stories knit into its sculptures and walls will keep you involved. Although one can't spend a great deal of time there, still a place worth visiting.

“A must visit in Cape Town”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 March 2014 via mobile

St George's Anglican Cathedral is a beautiful busing in Central Cape Town & is so well worth a visit whether for worship on Sunday morning or at any time to visit or pray.

This church was a pivotal point in the struggle years when apartheid was at it's height & most pernicious. The world famous Archbishop (Emeritus) Desmond Tutu was the first black archbishop to be appointed here when the struggle was at it's height.

It is worth visiting the cathedral just to gaze at the beautiful rose window.....

The organ is a joy to hear as is the choir on Sunday. There are sometimes organ recitals here too - watch local press.

There is a restaurant / coffee shop in the crypt.

St George's is easy to find & is within walking distance of downtown. It is adjacent to the Company's Gardens which is perfect for a stroll or relax after your cathedral visit.
