“Quirky and relaxed”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 February 2012

My husband and I stayed for 7 nights whilst he was on a conference in South Africa. It has a slightly quirky style but all services we received were of a good standard. We had a room 219 on second floor in the back corner with a view over a side street. The bathroom was large with a bath and shower. The housekeeping and main desk were both excellent as was the staff at the small but perfectly adequate pool. We drank in the stylish Harveys bar most evenings and ate in the restaurant once plus breakfast. We had no complaints about the food or service. I had a massage in the spa which was good and they seem to have plenty of free appointments. It is a great situation for sea view and getting about Cape Town. The hotel shuttle car was also extremely helpful. Hope to go back next year.......the suites looked very nice!

Room Tip: Our room was probably not best spot. I shall ask for sea or pool view next time.

This is a marvelous place to stay in Cape Town. The location if fantastic, right across from the water in a safe and delightful neighborhood. Walking, jogging, whatever along the water is a treat any time of the day, but especially in the early morning or taking in the sunset. The room I had was large and well laid out and the breakfast is terrific. I also had dinner in the lovely, quiet courtyard. You'll like the food and wine at the restaurant. The staff could not have been nicer. Winchester Mansions is a treat.

Dear Hank P

thank your for your review. Good to hear you had a good time with us. Please make sure you tell many people about Cape Town and us over there, I travel in the US every year in order to attract business but due to many guests opting for the 5 star units, I suppose as a kind of quality assurance, it is not always easy for a four star standalone like us. I hope to have you back with us real soon.

From the moment we walked through the doors we felt at home. Our room was lovely with an attached sitting room. Iced filtered water and lime cordial was left in a beautiful jug and replaced twice daily. All rooms are accessed by colonaded walkways around the courtyard terrace where breakfast was served. All the staff made you feel like a long lost relative from the lovely waitresses serving breakfast to the bar staff when having sundowners along with the locals on the front terrace. After visiting the numerous places of interest in Cape Town and surrounds it was great to have a refreshing swim and relax by the swimming pool.

The hotel is very conveniently situated at Sea Point with the Vand A Waterfront, Cape Point, Table Mountain etc., all easily accessible. There is a complimentary shuttle car to the V and A Waterfront. We took the Red Bus City Tour from the stop immediately outside the hotel, highly recommended.

We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay at this first rate hotel and if ever we are lucky enough to visit Cape Town again we will definitely be staying at the Winnie Mans., (our affectionate name for the hotel).

The prices for food and drink was reasonable and all food we had was suberb with a splendid choice. Look out for the special happy hour events in Harvey's bar during the week, very enjoyable.

Room Tip: All rooms are nice, although ones facing the sea might have traffic noise.

I spend a lot of time in Cape Town both business and pleasure and was really looking forward to staying at the Winchester for the first time and what will be the last time. What a terrible experience. Firstly their website claims that all rooms have mountain or see views - well I am not sure how they can make this claim. I think we must have been given the worst room in the entire hotel with a view of the corridor. Because it looked over a corridor, we had to have the curtains closed when we were in the room with the light on which is not exaclty the experience one wants when in CT. I found the staff rude. There was some dispute aout my rate, whcih was a per room rate and paid in advance, instead of calling me about this, they left a rude, curt note under my door and I am still not sure what the issue is. We had to constantly request tea bags, sugear etc as these had not been replenished, one of their housekeepers actually slammed the door on us when we very reasonably asked that our room be turned down as it still had not been done when we returined from dinner after 21h00 on evening. There are so many hotels in CT so I certainly will not be paying another visit

Room Tip: You will need to specifically aks for a room with a view - do not assume liek we did that the statem...

Dear Monique L

thank you for your review.
I am in shock and very sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your stay with us. I will send you a separate message in an attempt to have you give us another chance to show you why by far the majority of these reviews are good to excellent. It is true that there a couple of rooms that are facing the courtyard, three to be exact. I must state that there are some guests who actually request these, we will make a note that should you return you won't be allocated such a room. I sincerely hope that you will give us a chance to redeem ourselves. Thank you

Fabulous hotel in an excellent location for seeing Cape Town and the rest of the Cape. Rooms have lots of natural light and open on to open walkway above beautiful courtyard in which breakfast and dinner are served. Very characterful. Would not hesitate to recommend and would definitely return if visited Cape Town again. Very easy to find from airport and parking safe and readily available on road in front of hotel (no need to use hotel parking). Staff very friendly and helpful. A lovely stay.

We recently celebrated a special event in Cape Town and the Western Cape. It started with a very enjoyable stay at the WM for 4 nights followed by a tour, ending back at the hotel for the final night. Our spacious and comfortable sea facing junior suite was ideal. In particular, we were delighted to receive a room gift of fruit and wine to mark our special occasion. The courtyard restaurant was perfect and the food delicious. All the staff we met were both professional and extremely friendly. Harveys bar was buzzing with mostly local clientele evenings and weekends. The hotel shuttle service was very popular with guests for V&A visits and transfers etc. This hotel is in a good location (also ideal for Citysightseeing bus tours!) and we would have no hesitation in recommending it as a good place to stay.
