Kensington Place was all we could have asked for after a long trip from Livingstone (Zambia) via Johannesburg to Cape Town. We picked up a hire car at the airport from Around About Cars, who I would highly recommend for their service and value for money - see their web site (www.aroundaboutcars.com).

Only a 25 minute drive from the airport if you don’t get lost – which we did! Our room in the hotel had everything and the service and friendliness of the staff was much appreciated. The hotel itself and the décor is beautiful and breakfast was an absolute feast – no need for lunch. The hotel is very close to downtown, Table Mountain cable car and lots of restaurants - see separate restaurant reviews.

The only irritant was no tea or coffee making facilities in the room, or an iron or ironing board, which seems to be an occasional peculiarity of South Africa. No problem in getting tea delivered to the room or items ironed for a small fee.

Two days was not enough in Cape Town and we will surely come back to Kensington Place when we return, which we are sure to do.

We stayed for 3 nights in August. Our first time in Cape Town. We were very well looked after by Marlene and Michael. They tirelessly tracked down our missing luggage, made recommendations and reservations at terrific restaurants and mapped out great day trips. Great bonus to have a laptop and complementary wireless in the room. The breakfasts were superb. The decoration refreshing, contemporary but warm. The weather was cold so we didn't spend much time in the garden or pool but it looked beautiful. I would highly recommend this place to others and would stay there again.

Kensington Place was everything we hoped for from reading the other reviews - wonderful location, views of Cape Town and Table Mountain from the room and fantastic service.

The hotel is a lovely part of Cape Town, with the nice cafes and shops of Kloof Street just five minutes away, while also being on a quiet road. The interior of the hotel is lovely, and sitting outside on the terrace eating breakfast (at whatever time you want!) was one of the highlights. We enjoyed the laid back atmosphere, where a friendly, unobtrusive staff are always on the look out for making your stay even better. The room was great, and we especially liked having our morning tea and coffee brought up to us to have on the balcony.

The restaurant recommendations the hotel made were both perfect (Carne and Aubergine) and their attention to the detail of booking taxis etc meant everything was stress free. On our last night when we were flying back to the UK, we were able to use one of the other rooms to get changed and relax before we left, which is the kind of service you pay for when staying here.
Beautiful property, great staff, generous breakfasts and perfect location.

We ended our 3 week trip in Africa at this wonderful hotel at the base of Table Mountain for 3 nights. It was like coming home....after an exhausting 2 weeks on safari. From the greeting at the gate by Mark, and his swiftness with which a drink appeared in your hands, and the easy end of the day banter make this a delightful place for a base in Cape Town.

The rooms are beautifully appointed, quite comfortable and one of the larger rooms we stayed in. Every detail was taken care of with grace and care.

Breakfast and the ambiance was delightful...a calm in the oasis of a big city, THIS is the place I want to be for my relaxing weekend.

Sasha was more than helpful with organinzing every detail of our stay. I cannot recommend this hotel enough....it is really like coming home where every details has already been taken care of. Sasha and her staff have done a fabulous job of making Kengsington Place comfortable and inviting.

I only wish she would open a hotel in San Francisco.

i have travelled across the middle east from Cape Town to Paris, oh my gosh South African hotels or Kensington Place for that matter excel in all aspects from amazing food, service to fanatastic room and design. I looked at the top ranking hotels in the tripadvisor Cape Town and physically inspected them for the few days that I was in the city. If you want design urban retreat no big hotel hype then none of the tripadvisor top ranked hotels match the offerings of Kensington Place. Its all about service fabulous design and delicious food (albeit limited menu). I looked at Derwent House, a no go a B&B , I stayed at 2 inn1 it was no match not sure how they got the no1 ranking in Cape Town, but moved out its a B&B, absolutely no or very little service after 5pm, no telephones in the room lovely location great pool, i do believe small hotels have so much to offer, this one falls short.

I love Paris, but hotels are so disappointing, I loved my time at Kensington Place so much that very few places can compare, sadly. Sasha & Mark were fantastic hosts, life will not be the same for me as a traveller.

Cant wait to go back.

PS if you like big hotels with loads of bars this is not for you this is a very special thoughtful hotel

This hotel was the first stop on our honeymoon and to say it was perfect is an understatement. Every whim/demand/request you could imagine was catered for and nothing was too much trouble. The staff were wonderful, food was fantastic and location lovely - fantastic views of Table Mountain. Chic boutique DEFINTELY fits. If we return to Caoe Town, we'll be back!

This boutique hotel, located at the top of Kloof Street, at the base of Table Mountain, was extremely comfortable. The location, in a residential area, was within walking distance of midtown, yet was quiet and away from the bustle of the Waterfront.
Our room was very spacious, with a sitting area. There were two balconies with beautiful views. The room even came with its own laptop for Internet access.
The breakfasts were delicious. The staff was very helpful and concerned about our comfort and safety. We highly recommend this hotel.
