Reviewed 8 April 2013

I really enjoyed my stay at Villa Belladonna. It felt like a home away from home. The service was excellent and done with a smile. I was personally assisted whenever I had questions or concerns. I would recommend it to anyone looking to feel warm and welcome and have a memorable stay in Cape Town.

The first thing that strikes one on arrival at Villa Belladonna is the breathtaking views of the sea and the mountains. The second is the instant feeling of warmth and the friendliness of the owner and staff. The setting is so peaceful and the location is close to the city, restaurants and a supermarket. The room I was given was neat, clean and comfortable. There is a sundeck with absolutely awesome views and a jacuzzi. I felt very much "at home" and relaxed which is really what a break away is all about. There was a TV in my room but I enjoyed sitting in the comfortable lounge area and watching TV on the big screen TV that is placed there. The owner is very knowledgeable about Cape Town, is great to chat to and is happy to help with any advice about touring the area. I am definitely making this my "place to stay" whenever I visit Cape Town from now on.

I stayed at Villa Bella Donna while in Cape Town. The booking was made on my behalf so I wasnt able to do a thorough review as I normally do. I will start by saying that the staff/ownership are very friendly, welcoming, and accommodating to guests. Secondly the views from the balcony are stunning. Aside from this the only positive thing I can say is that the place is very clean...which is important. But these positives do not make up for the negatives.

The place is quite dated and seems as if no upgrades or renovations have been made since the 1970s. It also has a hippy commune/hostel feel, complete with wooden bead room dividers. The gardens were a bit unkept and the fountain outside of my room was filled with dirty water. The "self catering" area is really an outdoor shed that also doubles as a laundry area. Its not the type of places Id want to cook in ......never mind eating.

The room I was given is downstairs at the garden level and has the feel of a basement dwelling. The room was very basic absolutely no frills....again very old furnishings. There was a TV....also from 1970 that had 2 channels. The place just did not meet my standards for a 3 star establishment. I didn't expect luxury but I expected much better. There seems to be no attention to the image/aesthetics of the property (e.g unkept grass, trash bags --- am not sure of the contents along the corridor etc.) Parking is also limited and quite tight inside the gate.

If you are extremely desparate or penny pinching you may find the place suitable. Otherwise, spend the extra cash for a nicer place elsewhere. I would not stay here again and would not recommend this guest house to anyone. Its just not the type of place you want to come back to for relaxing after a long day of work or sightseeing.

To Trip Advisor,
The agency that contacted us regarding this booking asked for the best deal. We offered standard room. We have luxury rooms as well at a higher price.
Our guest stayed in room No. 4. It is a spacious room (52 sq metres) that was renovated 3 years ago consisting of en-suite with a queen size bed and head lamps, a wall heater, air condition, a four door wardrobe, a dressing table, sitting antique couch, radio clock alarm and coffee/tea station.
The TV has all the normal channels; SABC1, SABC2, SABC3 and e TV, the guest can also choose 1 out of more than a 100 channels on DSTV. They can come to the cosy lounge as well and surf DSTV on a huge, modern flat screen.
The KOI pond consists of 2 filters (mechanic and electronic) and we keep the PH in balance stable. Otherwise the sensitive fish will die .The water in this pond is not dirty.
Our self-catering court is very popular amongst our guests and is not used as a laundry as we have a well equipped laundry room with a commercial washing machine, tumble drier, press iron etc.
The African wooden beads that hang in the Patio keeps our free flying budgies in our aviary. It is a "little paradise."
We have 3 off street secure under cover parking lots. It is convenient to park at the entrance, but it will prevents other 2 parking of used.
We do appreciate guest’s constructive criticism. I would be delighted to have tea/coffee and cake with her in the future and listen carefully to any positive suggestion. I am just surprised that the guest stayed for night or two nights with so bad impression and without complain to the owner.
You can see our images on FlipKey.
Sincerely yours
Eliav
