“Great on a rainy day”

Cape Town Science Centre
Attraction details
Reviewed 23 August 2013

During one rainy day in Cape Town we took our children, aged 8 & 10, here. Having read the reviews we went with an open main, the children had a really good time and spent a good 4 hours there. As others have said the neighbourhood isn't the best but don't be put off. All of the exhibits are in one very large room. There are lots of hands on stuff with very good written descriptions. When we went there was about 4 school parties there so at times I was quite busy but these groups had different scheduled activities so it was never really overcrowded for long. We were also invited to join the school parties for the science show, my kids loved this. There is a section set up like a builders yard, great imaginative play. One huge hit was the Xbox live - my son played with a member of staff there for a good half an hour. There is a small area set aside for a cafe which sold drinks and small snacks/cakes/sandwiches. Overall this turned out to be one of the highlights for the children during our holiday in Cape Town.

This is the place to come with smalls on a rainy day, but expect to be busy busy and excited. What a fun way to learn basic scientific principles. Even educated adults might find themselves amazed!

If the weather isn't too great, then bring the kids here. It's full of interactive science displays and the staff are well trained in giving demonstrations and explanations. They also do school groups.

The science center is not in the cleanest of neighborhoods. Kind of sketchy and we thought we were lost for a moment. Parking in front and walking in it was quite quiet. Nothing fancy. But stairs leading up to the pay booth and through the long hallway we arrived at gadgets and such. Much better. There were interesting things to keep my kids occupied for hours. Building was the most fun for my kids. And they love it. Ask for the next time to return. And my kids are under 11 yrs. good for a rainy day or nothing to do.

My eleven year old found the CTSC boring. There was very little to see or do. One or two interesting gadgets but way too few for when there are groups of families.
