Silvermine Nature Reserve Hike from Cape Town

For the more adventurous & fitter tourists, take a day to hike the trails, visit Eliphant's Eye cave & gaze over the entire Cape Peninsula - the trails are well marked and safe for all comers. Young children should easily handle the walks and will love the swim in the high-altitude dam after a long walk through absolutely beautiful indigenous flora & fauna. I guarantee that you will return to this magical nature reserve.

The walk from the carpark to the cave, particularly using the signposted shortcut path, is just stunning, particularly if you're interested in the seething mass of biodiversity on either side of you. In November the proteas might not be in flower, but just about everything else is, including the cape dahlia (pea family).

The path is a bit rugged in places, but easily manageable in hiking sandals. The reward is the spectacular view over Tokai and Constantia from the cave and the lookout hut.

On the way back, a visit to the dam with a nice paddle in the cool waters is lovely.

An easy walk, and accessible for wheel chairs, which is really great. The dam is surrounded by the most magnificent nature and there are lots of spots for families or couples to relax under the trees for the whole day. You can even braai (barbeque) at most of the spots.

Silvermine is one of these lovely nature spots dotted around the Cape Peninsula where you can take your family and dogs (if you have a permit) for walks or even just for a picnic. Plenty of space for kids to have fun and play if they don't want to go on walking trail.
