We reached hotel just before noon and wanted to step out after refreshing. It was good place to begin with. Hotel provided shuttle and it was not very far from our hotel. Nice place to eat, had variety of choices.

The Market on the Wharf housed one of our favorite sites during our Cape Town trip (we went there to eat 3 times). There is a building with two floors of small stands/shops that produce some delicious eats of various cultures, from Argentina to Asia, ice creams and chocolates to flat breads and paella. Our favorites were the flat breads, jerky, samosas and african wraps. And ice cream. And chocolates. It was all great! Grab your food and sit outside to enjoy the oceanfront or take it on a walk past the shops and listen to the local street performers/bands. If you want finer shopping, you can do it here. If you want something more of a souvenir, go to the Greenmarket - you can find many of the same things at a negotiable price.

It is a two storey building arranged in stalls where you can find South African delicatessen and crafts, cafés, juices and sweets. You get that homely feel of handmade food and readily cooked meals in a stylish area.

It is a great place to go for lunch. Also great to grab the last presents before going back home.

I would highlight the biltong stand where you can buy the beef and game typically South African dried meat. Gorgeous. They cut it in front of you and you can take it home vacuum packed: Kudu, springbok, beef, chill beef and dröewors (dried spiced sausages).

You also have a honey stall where you can buy fynbos honey, that family flower exclusive to the cape area. An another stall where you find salt from the Kalahari desert.

At lunch time it is a must. Different stalls offer food cooked in front of your eyes. Simple and tasty recipes with fresh ingredients at low prices: I had a mouthwatering springbok steak with red sauce and olives paste on a bed of mashed potatoes for less than 5 euros.

An important note. They only accept cash in all stalls. There is a convenient ATM / cash machine in the first floor but if you are foreign visitor and that is not an option, don't forget your hard cash :-)
