An African Villa is a beautiful, impeccably managed B&B in Cape Town that made our Cape Town vacation better than expected--in fact we commented that our entire experience would have been diminished if we had stayed in the commercial downtown or by the V&A waterfront and not had Louis's and Jimmy's recommendations right from the start. An African Villa is close to good restaurants and bars and convenient to sites like Table Mountain. Truly fantastic service from breakfast and evening pre-dinner drinks to recommendations for restaurants and activities that allowed us to maximize our time in Cape Town and see things not in travel guides. The rooms are idyllic, clean, and comfortable--we even had a view of Table Mountain to wake up to.

Another reviewer said it very well: "The reviews by travel magazines of your Villa have been earned with an eye on detail that is rare."

Just returned from South Africa, and spent the last night in Cape Town, staying at An African Villa-now wish could have stayed there longer, one of the nicest hotels/guesthouses I've ever stayed in! Staff were incredibly friendly, the room was very comfortable, excellent breakfast, free internet, honesty fridge, resident friendly dachshunds-I could go on but if you go to Cape Town and get the chance to book in here, do!

This hotel is definitely worth every perfect rating that it receives, the whole team go out of their way to provide a lovely atmosphere and ambiance throughout the building, and to meet any request or question with a perfect solution or response, and are always willing to go the extra mile to make your stay as perfect as possible. The breakfasts are varied and delightful, and the honesty fridge is a great idea, with exceptionally sensible prices as well. Our room was beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean, and Keith booked several excellent restaurants for our evening meals. The hosts are all good company and a fountain of information on Capetown and what is available to do, and you always feel that they have time for you, no matter how busy they appear. There are several excellent places to eat within a short walk of the hotel, and area seems very safe and quiet. We booked a gold room but on arrival we had been upgraded to a platinum with a balcony overlooking the courtyard, and a great view of table mountain.

We are already making arrangements to return next Christmas for another week of complete hassle free relaxation. Thank You all.

My husband and I stayed at the African Villa for four nights over the Christmas holiday and loved every minute of it. Keith and Cindy were incredibly kind and welcoming hosts and were invaluable in ensuring that we made the most out of our time in Cape Town. In particular, Keith was very helpful in making sure that we had plans and bookings for the holidays - which can be tough to come by as many places are shut for the Christmas holiday. They even hosted a little champagne reception for the guests on Christmas Eve, which was incredibly thoughtful.

The villa itself is wonderful and in a great, quiet part of town - Tamboerskloof. It's walkable to Long Street as well as other side streets with great restaurants, bars, and cafes. It's also only a short cab ride from the other main attractions in Cape Town. We also had a car and had no problem finding a place to park it on the street. The villa is decorated tastefully - you can even buy some of the items - and the pool in the back was a nice touch. Our room (A4, I believe) was large with a lovely balcony facing the street and the bathroom was updated with modern finishes. Breakfast, served in a dining room or outside by the pool, was generous with fruit, yogurts, and eggs cooked to specification. Definitely a great start to each day.

We look forward to returning to An African Villa whenever we return to Cape Town!

We stayed at An African Villa for five days around New Year's Eve 2012.

Even before we arrived, we knew that we had made a good choice with An African Villa. A month or so before we arrived, we got an email from them giving some suggestions of things to do in Cape Town and offering to make arrangements for us.

On arrival we were made to feel completely at home and Louis booked us a restaurant for the evening (Millers Thumb - highly recommended). This level of helpfulness continued throughout our stay.

The breakfasts were fantastic, the "honesty fridge" is a great idea and the location is pretty much ideal. We'll certainly be returning on our next trip to Cape Town.

My girlfriend booked the Villa for us and another couple for our stay in Cape Town. An exemplary accomadation with no detail left for the comfort and well being for her guests. Thank you Keith, Cindy, Louis for a time of peace you gave us. The care and thoughtfulness of you and your staff made us realize that Cape Town was NOT a place worth seeing only once!!! By the third night we were adamant that returning to your fair city and staying with you again is definitely on our list!! When we were told that "Anything in the Villa is at your disposal during your stay, this is your home." It made up our mind to return again and again. The late nights by the pool with a decanter of Port and supercharged breakfasts in the morning to the wonderful staff who had us wanting for not, your attention to our needs as customers is truly unsurpassed. The reviews by travel magazines of your Villa have been earned with an eye on detail that is rare.

we stayed at An African Villa for 8 days, from start to finish the staff were absolutely wonderful and the guest house was a home away from home. From the home made breakfasts in the morning to the xmas gifts delivered to our rooms on xmas day our stay was excellent.

now I'll tell you all a few things that you may not find in the lonely planet book or on the guest house's website.... they have an honesty fridge that 24/7 you can go take what you like and put a check by your name and pay when you leave, any directions/tours tickets you need, the hosts will do their absolute best to help you out. there's always a bottle of sherry and port waiting in the living rooms downstairs for people to enjoy after returning form a night out (complimentary)... they offer a same day wash and fold laundry service, the rooms are air conditioned. On Christmas eve the hosts put on a kind of get together in the pool area for all the guests with h'orderves and champagne. During our trip my girlfriend broke her arm and after she returned from the hospital, the hosts (owners) of the guest house sent her flowers....

Its these little things and attention to detail and commitment to exceptional customer service that made tour stay exceptional. we would definitely stay here again if ever in Capetwon and would highly recommend it to everyone else....

And this is just our personal preference, but they dont allow children, so no crying, or running up and down the halls or anyone jumping on the floor or on the bed above you keeping you up all night... just quiet bliss

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
This Villa is much more than that! It is in fact three houses which are part of a Victorian terrace dating from 1892. The double story houses have been joined together and so the inside spaces are much larger than the facade suggests. It's like walking into a TARDIS someone has written on Tripadvisor! There are 12 rooms and the hotel is owner managed.Location is vital when choosing a spot for you vacation and this more than a Villa is within an easy walk of all tourist attractions in the city area. The others (like the fabulous beaches) are a short taxi ride away. There is a small plunge pool in a peaceful courtyard where a very full breakfast is served in summer. (In winter there's a sociable dining room and an eco-friendly fire blazing). Your hosts are very careful to offer you as much information as you want and they will arrange car rental, restaurant reservations, tours etc. As required.Free internet on 2 computers in a library area and wireless access is available in all rooms. At night the night porter will set out complimentary sherry and port and at other times there is an honesty bar and guest fridge in the kitchen. Parking is on street and there is no charge (street guards patrol) but you should not need a car from this well placed hotel. ... more   less
