From booking to reluctant departure, the team at An African Villa were top-notch.
Relaxed but genuine welcome, sat down by Cindy and taken step by step through this wonderful set of interlinked, converted houses, we were shown the attractions of the house and had a careful briefing on Cape Town , eateries, personal security etc. bookings of every sort made with enthusiasm and knowledge. Louis, Keith and Cindy are all partners in the Villa, and their engagement with every new guest was widely appreciated and noted....too many positives and no negatives make this a first choice for a return visit.

Room Tip: Ask for view of Table Mountain

An African Villa was a perfect introduction to Cape Town and South Africa for us on our honeymoon. Immediately after we booked they arranged transport from the airport to the Villa, along with tips about where to eat like the excellent The Test Kitchen.
That continued when we arrived, with Cindy and Louis providing more tips about when and how to book visits to the capital’s big attractions.
The rooms were spacious, comfortable and like the rest of the Villa, incredibly stylish. It was also quiet and meant we could have a decent sleep to recover from our journey.
We found An African Villa’s location ideal as it heavily cut down on taxi bills, with the area of Tamboerskloof a trendy area with lots of nice restaurants like the excellent Emily’s (thanks again Cindy for that recommendation!) and Miller’s Thumb. It also provides easy access to Long Street to walk down to the city centre and the sites like the National Gallery and Slave Lodge.
The breakfasts were also delicious and we were able to eat so much we were usually able to skip lunch (well, it was our honeymoon, diet begins now we’re back...).
In short, we could not find fault with An African Villa, and would recommend anyone looking to travel to Cape Town stay there.

We loved our stay at An African Villa during our honeymoon. The location is great (restaurants nearby you can walk to and easy taxi ride elsewhere), the breakfast is awesome, the staff are helpful, the rooms are nice and the beds are comfortable. There were only two things that would have made it even better: (1) it was our honeymoon so it would have been nice to get something special for our celebration (but of course not all hotels give like a celebratory wine or something to honeymooners) and (2) our room was not fully cleaned every day - when we arrived there was a rotting apple left in our room and our mugs that we used during the night were just left in our room throughout the day.

Loved our experience at An African Villa. The staff was wonderful and helped us get reservations at some fantastic restaurants. Comfortable 'living room' style area downstairs to have a 'nightcap'. Rooms are superb! Would definitely stay again.

What a perfect little find in Cape Town. Located in Tamboerskloof about halfway between the base of Table Mountain and Long Street, it is a easy walk / short cab ride in to town, and in a very convenient location if you have a car and want to get in/out of the city. Also plenty of very close restaurant options to keep you busy for more than a week.

The house is very well-appointed, with an eclectic modern-urban-african vibe. The hosts are exceedingly nice and helpful, and the breakfasts were the perfect start to each day. They will even gladly box breakfast for you if you need to head out early.

I can't say enough about our experience at African Villa. All 4 owner/managers go out of their way to ensure you have a perfect stay. I woke up quite ill one morning and Keith somehow scheduled me a doctor appointment for 8am that very day and personally drove me there himself and afterwards to the pharmacy to pick up prescriptions. They had no problem cancelling and rescheduling our tours for us due to my illness and couldn't have been more accommodating.
The breakfasts are much more than your usual continental breakfast with a full cooked breakfast made to order.
The rooms are spotless and serviced every morning.
The hotel is in a great location within walking distance to restaurants and coffee shops.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Cape Town.
Thank you Keith, Cindy, Louis & Jimmy for a great stay! I wish we could have stayed longer.

Room Tip: Stayed in C3 - This room was perfect for us, very quiet, large bathroom, no balcony.

We returned to Cape Town and stayed at the African Villa in Tamboerskloof. We had the most wonderful stay. The location is perfect, near to everything and quick to highways, restaurants and scenic drives, Jimmy, Louis, Cindy and Keith were fantastic and have created an oasis of comfort and luxuary with the most minute of details - bath salts, afternoon cakes, divinely comfortable beds and wonderful decor. We sank into the library sofa each night with our port or sherry. Wonderful breakfasts and the best travel advice for those who need some help. Extremely professionally run. Would return in a heartbeat.
Highly recommended for holidays and business travel. Its a boutique hotel with a heart.
Thanks for the great recipie!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
This Villa is much more than that! It is in fact three houses which are part of a Victorian terrace dating from 1892. The double story houses have been joined together and so the inside spaces are much larger than the facade suggests. It's like walking into a TARDIS someone has written on Tripadvisor! There are 12 rooms and the hotel is owner managed.Location is vital when choosing a spot for you vacation and this more than a Villa is within an easy walk of all tourist attractions in the city area. The others (like the fabulous beaches) are a short taxi ride away. There is a small plunge pool in a peaceful courtyard where a very full breakfast is served in summer. (In winter there's a sociable dining room and an eco-friendly fire blazing). Your hosts are very careful to offer you as much information as you want and they will arrange car rental, restaurant reservations, tours etc. As required.Free internet on 2 computers in a library area and wireless access is available in all rooms. At night the night porter will set out complimentary sherry and port and at other times there is an honesty bar and guest fridge in the kitchen. Parking is on street and there is no charge (street guards patrol) but you should not need a car from this well placed hotel. ... more   less
