“Nice Guesthouse”
Reviewed 17 November 2009

As all the other reviews said this is a very nice guest house on a quiet street and near good restaurants. However, the staff is the shining star here and are very nice people from the office staff to the household staff. We stayed for five nights and enjoyed our stay. Parking is on street and safe and the location provides easy access to roads in and out of town.

We stayed 4 nights at An African Villa in the beginning of our 2 week trip to South Africa. The 1st 2 nights we had no car, and picked up a hired car (Avis is a ~30 rand taxi ride away) for the other 2 nights. Parking on the the street was not an issue, and the location made driving out to Cape Point and the Winelands very convenient.

We had a platinum room with a balcony overlooking the courtyard (A1). The room was modern, good size, and beautiful. This room is also away from any common areas, which is nice. The staff was friendly, helpful and very informed. The weather was quite unstable when we were there, but the staff's recommendation each day worked out perfectly. There were lots of extras, which other reviews already mentioned. They add to the comfort of the place, making it a perfect place to see West Cape.

After reading all of the glowing reviews, we did not hesitate to book our 6 day visit to Cape Town at An African Villa. We were not disappointed. The personal attention you receive by the entire staff is outstanding. They have made good service their prority. The location is ideal for visiting restaurants, shopping, tours etc. Another perk was the free internet access. Just ask at the "VILLA" and your wish will be granted.

My wife & I spent four nights at An African Villa as part of a short stay in the cape. We booked it based on recommendations in TripAdvisor, which I've found to be a bit hit and miss previously, but this was a big hit.
The location is great, in a quiet residential district in a safe area in the center of the city. There were some great restaurants in easy walking distance & we always felt safe.
The houses have been remodelled in a very stylish manner, reflected in the interior decor. The photos don't do it justice. We stayed in the cheaper rooms, they weren't huge, but they were very nicely fitted, very clean, and had very comfortable beds.
The breakfasts provided were delicious.
The best thing about the hotel though is the staff, nothing was too much for them, and they were a mine of information about the Cape Town and the surrounding area. They really made us feel welcome. This seemed to rub off on the other guests as the whole place had a friendly feel.
I highly reccomend An African Villa, and would certainly go there again.

We stayed for four nights in two different rooms. It is a superb place to stay and an ideal base for exploring Cape Town and the region. The friendliness, hospitality, breakfasts and style were all first class. The hotel is situated in easy reach of the City (10-15 minutes walk), the Kloof Street cafes and restaurants and Table Mountain (10 minutes drive). Room A4 has a balcony and is very spacious and is perhaps the pick of the rooms to stay. The hosts go well out of their way to ensure the stay is a pleasant one. The breakfasts are excellent. Free wireless internet is provided as well as two guest computers. There is a well stocked library of guide books, a very reasonably priced honesty fridge stocked with local beers and wines. We went away for a few days and there was no problem storing luggage while we were away. thoroughly recommended.

I found it difficult at first to understand why An African Villa so appealed to me, yes its clean, nicely decorated, good breakfast, cheerful helpful staff and owners, cute dogs etc etc.....but it was more than this........then I realised that each time we returned after a full day out it felt like coming home. Not sure what it was, the combination of a lovely sitting room with free Port and Sherry brought people together, one night there was people from Usa, Canada, Australia and Uk all sat chatting and comparing tales, we never experienced this at any other place we stayed, it just felt like home.

Four of us spent 3 nights at An African Villa, late September/early October. On arrival after 27 hour flight we were greeted with breakfast and detailed information about the villa and Cape Town. Our room ( platinum level) was ready for us for early check in..the room was spacious, the bed was comfortable and we had both bath and shower. During our stay the hosts made sure we had dinner reservatons, advised walking routes and gave shopping information specific to our requests. I'd describe the service as helpful without being intrusive. The Villa is full of wonderful art and it was most pleasant to come in after a long day, check email and sit and chat with other guests over the complimentary glass of port or sherry. We were able to walk to two good restaurants and also to walk down to Long Street area. Breakfast was excellent with a large selection of cold meats, cheeses, fruit, juices, eggs and bacon cooked to order, plus different cakes and breads each morning, and items such as mozzarella with fresh tomatoes and pesto. I highly recommend An African Villa and if we should have the chance to go back to Cape Town I would stay there without question. Value was top notch, it has the feel of a boutique hotel rather than a B&B.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
This Villa is much more than that! It is in fact three houses which are part of a Victorian terrace dating from 1892. The double story houses have been joined together and so the inside spaces are much larger than the facade suggests. It's like walking into a TARDIS someone has written on Tripadvisor! There are 12 rooms and the hotel is owner managed.Location is vital when choosing a spot for you vacation and this more than a Villa is within an easy walk of all tourist attractions in the city area. The others (like the fabulous beaches) are a short taxi ride away. There is a small plunge pool in a peaceful courtyard where a very full breakfast is served in summer. (In winter there's a sociable dining room and an eco-friendly fire blazing). Your hosts are very careful to offer you as much information as you want and they will arrange car rental, restaurant reservations, tours etc. As required.Free internet on 2 computers in a library area and wireless access is available in all rooms. At night the night porter will set out complimentary sherry and port and at other times there is an honesty bar and guest fridge in the kitchen. Parking is on street and there is no charge (street guards patrol) but you should not need a car from this well placed hotel. ... more   less
