Clifton is a large stretch of beach sectioned off into four areas (funnily enough, you'll see signs for Beach 3 3/4 as well, whatever that means). It can get pretty crowded over the summer, but overall it's a clean, quiet beach in a safe area. The water is not for swimming, unless you like ice cold water. But you can lie out in the sun and hail down one of the ice cream men for a sweet treat now and then.

I've seen people bring and set up volleyball nets. It can get really windy toward late afternoon, but during midday you can definitely bump a volleyball around.

There aren't really any eateries nearby (it's a residential area), so bring your own food if you plan to stay a while.

We were happy to see that the beach area was clean and safe. However the water was extremely cold, so not really good for swimming

The beach is really a small little one, with icy waters when we visited, but saw dolphins and enjoyed lunch, watching the fancy cars and women.

Clifton is known for its beauties and freezing water surrounded by the most expensive real estate in SA. Always fun to visit, if parking is available and you have an appetite to for a picnic on the beach. Carrying the picnic basket down the stairs can be tiring but worth it, as there is seldom the south Easter blowing in clifton

Clifton has the most fantastic location. It has white sands and a freezing ocean, which is a relief on a blistering hot day. You can hire a sun bed and umbrella, and they sell cool drinks on the beach. The passion fruit ice lolly is perfect for cooling down. 4th beach is best for families as it is easy to get to. 3rd beach is good if you prefer some peace.
