Stunning beach, beautiful surroundings. Feel free to be free. Easy swimming in rock pools. Great for a lazy day by the beach. No children.

“Fantastic beach but choose your time right.”
Reviewed 7 April 2013

Sandy Bay is a beautiful unspoiled beach. It is also not as crowded as some of Cape Town's other beaches. Most people visiting the beach are beach lovers who enjoy nature amicably with nudist and non-nudist alike. Unfortunately some people have been unable to control themselves and have marred the family friendly image of the beach by having sex in the open. This however only happens during quiet times when there isn't a lot of people on the beach. If you visit in December or during most Saturday/Sundays in the summer then you will find families and otherwise decent folk enjoying the beach.

I would say if you love the beach then Sandy Bay is definitely worth a visit. If you are brave enough then liberate yourself and go nude but do not feel obliged to get rid of your kit.

Remember to bring all you need with as there are no shops or vendors on the beach. Especially water as the hike there and back can be very hot....

Follow the link to see a map of where to park and the route to the beach. (http://goo.gl/maps/1qqW7)

The beach closest to the car park is mostly frequented by families and the beach further from the car park is where the gay community usually gather. But this is not a steadfast rule and everybody is of course welcome anywhere on the beach.

“Damn I missed it”
Reviewed 27 March 2013

Went there but then saw that it was all rocky instead of sandy and decided not to embark on the hike choosing Llandudno beach instead, which is definitely also worth a visit. After reading all the reviews I think I missed out on sandy beach, so it's on the list for next time. Goes to show how useful it is to read your TP reviews beforehand!

“Long walk to (naked)freedom”
Reviewed 20 March 2013

To the first time visitor, Sandy Bay is one of those places which you have heard a lot about yet have to experience for yourself.
The parking on a real nice summers day can be off putting especially if you realise you still have some way to go before getting to the beach.
At the beginning to the path, is a vendor selling all sorts of soft drinks and snacks. Make use of him before embarking on the hike, as there are no other vendors on the beach and it is far.
Once you get to the beach, pick yourself a spot and camp there.
Most times, you will find the local couples can be pretty friendly and most folk just stay in there own natural world enjoying the freedom to walk around in their birthday suits.
Remember, taking photos of the "wildlife" will get you thrown off the beach by irate beachgoers.
Dont even pretend you are on your mobile phone as most networks dont work there!
Many families also find themselves on the beach and are tolerated as long as the kids arent too noisy

“Africa's only nudist beach”
Reviewed 28 February 2013

clean and tidy bay with janitors and parc patrols to guarantee a safe visit on Africas one and only nudist beach. Beware of the sun, with few shady places on the beach but lots of bushes in the hinterland ;-)
