We love hiking when we travel and since we had a sunny (but windy) afternoon available decided that Lion's Head looked like a good option. The trail is very well marked, somewhat groomed at the lower elevations where protea were just blooming. As you go higher, the path narrows and has ladders in places where you'd otherwise need climbing experience to continue on. There's a short cut toward the top that takes you up rungs and lengths of chain drilled into the rock for hand and foot holds. That can feel a bit hairy, but well it's worth the effort. 306 views from the top of Cape Town and across to Table Mountain.

There are parking guides at the base to help you locate a space since that can be a bit of a challenge on busy days.

We climbed Lions Head on a Sunday evening & it was very crowded. At times it was a bit scary as people weren't being careful climbing, one girl coming down fell flat on her face. Some people weren't very fit or dressed correctly & also made the walk a bit difficult.

I've lived in Cape Town for 4years now, and I always recommend Lions Head 'hike' to visiting friends and travelers - it's really more of a WALK up the mountain on a clearly marked trail! Best part, it's 100% FREE!

Easy-medium difficulty, you can walk up with a basic pair of Tekkies (trainer / sport shoes!) for 1-1.5 hours depending on your fitness. Gorgeous hike, you get a 360 degree view of the city! Starting with. Rewarding view of the 12 Apostles towards camps bay, rounding the hill with views of Atlantic Ocean , back into the city bowl with Table Mountain as perfect backdrop of the city!

The view from top is unbeatable, and incredibly satisfying after the walk up! Pack water, snacks, even picnic and wine if you are up for the challenge ;) enjoy a Sunrise or Sunset hike for extra delight!

If you happen to be in Cape Town on full moon nights, join locals for the ever popular Full Moon hike - get some head lights or a handheld flashlight/ torch for safety though!

This is definately a must see on a visit to Cape Town!! Even if you aren't fit enough to go all the way to the top, if you just go for around 40 minutes you will still be treated to the most amazing views. Highly recommend doing this whilst in Cape Town.

This is an impressive mystic view! It's sort of a Rocky Mountain and Not that High but It's Amazingly Beautiful and it has an unknown magnetic reason to attract you!!!
You Can't miss it!!!
