“Southern Sun Cape Sun”
Reviewed 20 August 2014

Terrific hotel staff: friendly, upbeat, helpful and professional.
Rooms: Comfortable with fabulous and powerful showers.
Each room has a view of the sea OR Table Mountain.
The elevators provide you with a view of the city/sea or Table Mountain, because they are located on the outside of the building.
Food: Excellent: Good assortment; they even have smoothies made to order at breakfast.
Location: Good: very much like a typical downtown area with lots of foot traffic throughout the day
Waterfront: within (25 minutes) walking distance or by car (5-7 minutes), plus the hotel has a shuttle van that drops off hotel guests every hour on the hour

I would stay here again particularly because of the quality and kindness of each member of staff.

Room Tip: Try to get a room above the fifteenth floor for an unobstructed view.

My husband and I stayed here from July 9th to13th as part of a tour group (Smart Tours), visiting South Africa. Hotel offered amenities of a first class hotel. The breakfast buffet was exceptional and each morning we were serenaded by a pianist which offered a touch of elegance to an otherwise delicious breakfast.
The hotel staff were helpful and happy to answer any questions regarding surrounding places of interest. There is a spa on the top floor that has sufficient exercise equipment and a spa, should you desire some R and R. Overall it was a great experience and we would stay here in future visits.

This hotel is excellent. The rooms and the hotel environment were immaccutaley clean. The staff were incredibly helpful and always happy to go the extra mile. The breakfast was great, lots of choice but the restaurant did not seem big enough for the size of the hotel and so breakfast was often accompanied with queuing, both for a table and for the food.

Cape Sun in centrally located and reachable from any other place. Walking distance to the Waterfront, parliament and other places of interest. The room provides all that one needs on business and a mini bar fridge to keep food fresh.

Spent five nights here with my family including teenage children. Great views from the rooms and the location is excellent with a mall across the street and lots of restaurants within walking distance. Rooms are ok but bathrooms need updating. For the Americans - no microwave, irons, or fridge in room nor ice machines. No gift shop or snacks. But, breakfast is great and lots of convenience stores around hotel. Laundry can be sent/taken to a shop in the African Woman's Market a ten minute walk away and they will wash and fold it and bring it back to the hotel in a few hours for R200 for a couple of huge loads - so very convenient. Drinks and snacks at the bar are very inexpensive. Best part of this hotel is the staff - especially the lobby staff - concierge, porters, bell captain. These folks work hard, are very polite, and excellent at what they do. If you are an American tourist family I would recommend this place as the concierge will help you get anywhere you want and the location is great for restaurants or fast food for the kids. Lots of taxis around and very inexpensive. They do have connecting rooms and the rooms we stayed in had sofa beds although you can't find this info on the hotel website. TVs are good quality/reception. Free shuttle will get you to the Waterfront and back without any issues, it runs on a schedule and there are always plenty of seats. All-in-all this is a great location from which to explore Cape Town.

Room Tip: Get one with a view of Table Mountain. Better view than the harbor. Go up high - 20th floor and abov...

I traveled to Cape Town with my mum and when we were looking for somewhere to stay we were looking for quite different types of hotels. I favour boutiquey hotels or places with some charm rather than the larger more institutional chains so I was a bit sceptical from the outset. But this hotel was a reliable, solid choice, and I had no complaints. Service was attentive and polite, and the concierge helped us make short notice booking and print out tickets. There was a free shuttle bus on the hour to the waterfront which we made use of several times. The meals were good and the breakfast buffet really great quality with a wonderfully wide selection of foods on offer. The rooms were comfortable and clean, if a little dated in places, and offered everything you might need in a hotel room - fridge, safe, tv and free wifi. I also had a couple of treatments in the spa on the top floor which were relaxing, restorative and highly professional. But the winning feature of this hotel was most definitely the views, from both the rooms and the super speedy lifts! The hotel is essentially dual aspect with rooms and lifts on either side. One side you have views facing table mountain which you can watch evolve as the sunlight shifts throughout the day, the other side you have views of the bay where you can watch the sunset over the ocean, cape bay and the city bowl. The only difficulty is which spectacular view to choose!

Room Tip: state your preference when checking in for a mountain view or a ocean view.

We stayed 5 days and were very happy with this hotel. Situation and views were excellent, Centrally located in Cape Town with a free shuttle bus service to the waterfront was most welcome. The staff were efficient, friendly and most helpful. Breakfast service was good as was the lounge food. The rooms were comfortable, spacious and clean although slightly tired in places. We would definitely stay here again. Thank you.

Room Tip: Mountain view amazing or town with sea views. Take your choice!
