Owner description: The Springbok Experience was nominated for the International Award in the 2014 Museum + Heritage Awards in the UK after opening on SA's Heritage Day in September 2013. It is a world-class, modern interactive museum telling South Africa’s story through the eyes of its most powerful sport. It's a fun and entertaining experience for the whole family and is a ‘must-do’ attraction at the heart of the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town. The museum features more than 60 audiovisual displays where visitors can watch the history of South African rugby unfold, set among cases displaying historic objects such as famous trophies, jerseys, boots and other memorabilia. It makes a perfect venue for exclusive corporate events as well. And there are games for children and adults alike where they can test their kicking, passing, fitness and reaction skills in the interactive ‘Springbok Trials’ games zone. There’s also a flagship Springbok Concept Store for those who just want to shop. The Springbok Experience is a museum – but much more than that.If you’re wondering what to do in Cape Town, you must visit the Springbok Experience.

“A must for all rugby fans”
Reviewed 19 May 2014

Thoroughly enjoyed the museum and especially loved the interactive games and tests. We got through it quite quickly, but we didn't read all the written pieces, so it will take longer if you do read everything.
It's located at the V&A Waterfront which makes it perfectly positioned for those who plan to spend a day at the Waterfront to visit the shopping mall, craft market, aquarium etc. Add this to the list!
The entrance fee is reasonable, we only paid R50 per person (around £3).
Every rugby fan will enjoy this exhibition. I highly recommend.

Dear Quazilogic, we're so glad that you enjoyed your visit and the interactivity of the museum. Quick visits are possible if you 'skim' through the graphic panels but, for those with time on their hands, there are hours of content to be accessed through our touchscreens,

“The Ultimate for a Rugby lover, educational for the rest”
Reviewed 14 May 2014

For any person with an interest in Rugby this is the Ultimate experience. It gives a very good educational and entertaining trip down memory lane on how the game came to be so influential in South Africa. Interesting information on the apartheid era and the game, and how it was perceived internationally.
The highlight is at the entertainment centre at the end - you can do a fitness test, and learn how to kick and pass. Go in quite times when you don't have to wait for your turn.
There is also a shop a the end selling all rugby memorabilia and the latest Rugby jerseys. Prices are very good, and they had the best price for a Springbok Rugby jersey in the Waterfront area.
Take something to drink with.

Dear TravelBuddy444, thank you for the visit and the informative review. The games have proved great fun for our visitors and, as you point out, the museum puts rugby in its South African context and how important it has been in our country.

“Well worth a visit”

This attraction is located right in the V&A water front district. I am not a rugby follower, but found the information and displays very interesting and informative.

There is material there to interest those of all ages.

Dear CocoTampa123, thanks so much for the review and the comments. Terrific that a non-rugby person was able to take so much from the Experience.

“Excellent initiative”
Reviewed 9 May 2014

Visited the museum as part of my extended tour of the V&A Waterfront in march. It is truly a humbling experience "walking" through the history and to see how far the springboks have come from the bygone era.
Only on suggestion- could do something about the entrance and directions to it. Perhaps a billboard could help as the entry from the basement parking side is tiny as compared to the grandeur of the museum

Dear Nikhil R, thank you for the review and the kind words. Your advice is well made and is something we are aware of. We will shortly be installing extra signage to draw attention to us - even though we're just across the road from the Waterfront Info centre it is possible not to see us.
