“A beautifully run lodge”
Reviewed 15 March 2014

My husband and I stayed at Blackheath Lodge for 5 days in February and were extremely happy with the whole experience. The staff (especially Charle and Jean Claude) were wonderfully helpful and kind, the breakfasts excellent and varied, and we loved the location in Seapoint which is easy walking distance to the Promenade, several nice restaurants, and to the MyCity bus stop. The rooms are quiet and the pool area is lovely. Everything was high quality and the service truly exceptional. There is someone on duty all through the night which is unusual in a smaller hotel such as this. We left at 5:00 AM to catch a plane but they had a nice fresh breakfast and coffee ready for us even at that hour. Highly recommended. Also, it is worth the effort to learn a bit about the MyCity bus as it has a large route and is a nice, inexpensive way to get around. Their main office is at the V & A waterfront and the staff there can help you figure it out.

Room Tip: We only saw our room, number 7 up the stairs. Quiet and sunny. Very happy there!

Our stay at Blackheath was simply wonderful! The rooms were clean, comfortable beds and welcoming to travelers! Breakfast was delicious and beautifully served with a variety of fresh fruits and hot entrees. The staff was attentive and helped us to make our daily travel plans. We have stayed in many B&B's and this was one of the best. If you are traveling to Cape Town- stay here, you will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: Our group had 5 rooms- each was different- all were great!

such a real shame...

Blackhealth Lodge is a lovely little establishment.
Its quite unique, the pool area is great, breakfast was impressive.
The service from check-in was top standard.
We had booked twin bedding however upon arrival this was not set up.
We werent fussed and had it changed the following day.
On our last night I had an extremely confronting and horrible experience.
I stayed in Room 5, just beside the pool with an open balcony,
deciding to leave the side door open as it was nice and breezy.
Upon waking up early morning I had my wallet and camera with irreplaceable
photos stolen from my bedside table, WHILE I WAS IN THE ROOM SLEEPING.
It is an incredible shame the lodge does not have surveillance cameras.
A night guard simply is not enough to prevent thieving taking place.
Unfortunately I will not be returning until a security system is set up
as I wouldn't feel safe coming back. It honestly made it that much worse
as I really loved the staff and accommodation. I will never know what became
of my camera and wallet. My camera had over 1500 photos from my trip over
Africa. This experience almost ruined my month holiday. My advice is, no matter
how safe and secure you feel PLEASE use the in-room safe and lock your windows!
If this hadn't happened definitely rate 5/5!

All the staff was friendly and extremely helpful. On arrival my husband was not feeling well. The owner said my husband did not look well enough to go out for dinner so he had one of the staff members prepare something for my husband and something different for me for dinner. While we were eating someone brought the luggage in from our car and put it in our room. All of this was much appreciated and shows how kind and considerate the staff was.

The beds are very comfortable. Breakfast is excellent. You feel the staff had genuine concern for all their guests.

This is the first time we have stayed in a small boutique hotel but after reading the reviews we decided to try it. We are so pleased we did as we all loved it including our 12 year old son and 9 year old daughter. Everything was no trouble and done with no fuss. The rooms are lovely with comfy beds, blackout curtains, lovely smelling accessories in the bathrooms, large TV on the wall and everything else you need in a room. They are so peaceful too - we had some lovely nights sleep here and weren't awoken by anything day or night. Breakfasts were plentiful and delicious. Not done on a large scale like the bigger hotels but there is still everything available that you need, from a large fruit choice to anything at all that you would like cooked. They even made "yummy" hot chocolate for the kids. The local staff cook and wait and they are all lovely too.
The pool area is small but so peaceful. Our kids loved it as they were able to either play in the dip pool, relax on the sun beds, watch TV in the room or the bar area or sit in the restaurant area on their computers - all of which are so close to each other that they felt completely at home and safe in the knowledge that we could see them at all times. Not that we were worried about them as we all felt completely safe and at home here. Having said that, although the sweet jars and staff suggest that children are welcome, and ours were very happy here, they need to respect the tranquillity of the place and the peace and quiet that other guests may be looking for when staying here.
The location was central and we managed to get out and about every day - all via taxis arranged by the hotel when we needed them.
What made this hotel extra special though are the little touches:
The timely and comfortable transfers to and from the airport (at a charge)
The lovely welcome Charle gave us when we arrived and throughout our stay.
The personal touch Antony gave us by arranging a trip out, a hire car and an alternative hotel for one night whilst we were at Boulders Beach.
The complimentary teas and coffee all day long, the complimentary snacks and jars of sweets in the bar. The yummy cakes brought out daily.
The staff bringing you ice creams when you lie by the pool.
The way all the staff are so attentive to their guest's needs - quiet and unobstrusive when you relax by the pool but always on hand when you need advice, help, a tour guide or a friendly chat!
The honesty bar where you can help yourself and write down what you have had.
The beach bag filled with towels and blankets that you can take to the beach with you.
The local mobile phone charged in your room pre-loaded with local numbers including taxi firms so that you can use it when you go out and about (just paying for the local calls).
The jug of lemon ice water that they bring out by the pool, along with complimentary sun cream for guests to use.
The way they arrange taxis, restaurants, days out for their guests.
The attention to detail with the décor - teapots hanging in the restaurant, pretty little bird boxes around the pool .......
I have stayed in lots of hotels around the world but no-where have I experienced the personal touch offered here. Charle was magnificent and makes you feel like you are completely at home. I missed her when she wasn't there....no more days off allowed!!
We are already looking forward to going back here. We loved Cape Town and will not even think of staying anywhere else that the BH Lodge.
Thanks to everyone for a lovely holiday x

You wake up to the beautiful chandelier above your head, reflecting the tiniest amount of sunlight reflecting from your curtain. You yawn, after a perfect nights sleep on a bed that feels like sleeping on a cloud. You shower in the spotless, stunning bathroom. You walk into the homely restaurant, and are seated without fuss at a perfectly set table. You notice the table set is posh, but not pompous. You die eating the michelin star quality entree's, all absolutely perfect with the most delicious cheeses, omelette muffins, juices and perfect fruits. You are greeted personally by the duty manager at your table, welcoming you to the lodge. You leave the restaurant having eaten the best in a long time. You receive world class information about any activity you care to name, plus more! You are stunned at the convenient location. You leave this hotel, knowing that you will never need another place to stay in Cape Town again.

We chose the Blackheath Lodge for a 2 night one day quick romantic stop-over for it's location and excellent reviews and weren't disappointed! Having been lived in Seapoint for a few months 15 years ago, it was nice to be in the area close to the center of town and V&A waterfront.

We had been in contact via email with Charle beforehand and had arranged for an airport transfer to the hotel as we arrived late and weren't keen on renting a car at the airport and driving in the dark in an unfamiliar not so safe place. We came from freezing weather and it was nice to be able to sit outside with a nice cool drink before retiring to the gorgeous spacious room - bed was indeed very comfortable and bathroom was clean and tastefully decorated :)

Breakfast buffet and the cooked breakfast were excellent in both choices and quality and the breakfast area is charmingly decorated, as is the rest of the hotel both inside and outside spaces.

Staff are all very friendly, and deliver excellent service with great personality.
We felt genuinely welcome and very spoilt.

My partner spent the day by the pool enjoying doing absolutely nothing in the sun while I went off for the day to meet a friend I had made when I was there previously; so we didn't make use of any of the available daytrips or activities. However hopefully we can come back and stay a bit longer a next time and see a bit more of the wonderful cape region.

Apologies for the shameless plug but should anyone want a local lunch experience in one of the main streets of Woodstock, please go see my friend Shaakierah at her cornershop cafeteria http://goo.gl/maps/vtp52 for the address. She makes great home cooked Indian food!

Thanks again for a wonderful stay to all who make the Blackheat Lodge such a great place to stay!

Room Tip: Lovely room but the one we were in had the 7 sins spelled out at on the wall opposite the bed, which...
