Many people end up staying here after being referred from other guest houses that are full (e.g. an african villa). One thing is for sure - this is not a second best kind of place.

The location is great and the restaurants and bars just around the corner are great. Definitely go for drinks at the Mount Nelson hotel which is just round the corner. Arnolds is a friendly local bar that does good food as well. People rave about Saigon the vietnamese but I didn't manage to make it there.

The directions from the airport are very easy to follow and parking on the road outside liberty lodge is fine. We felt safe at all times of day walking around the neighberhood. Safety in capetown is massively overplayed. Sensible people would be very unlucky to come into any trouble.

The furnishings and rooms are lovely. The only thing missing is a pool but there is so much to do in capetown you shouldn't have time for lazing around a pool - an activity better saved for other places in south africa.

The owner Ruth is very helpful - if a little mad. We didn't come across one guest house owner on our travels that wasn't a bit wacky. Lisa the main member of staff is fantastic and her breakfasts are wonderful. A great way to start the day.

Ask for the large room on the first floor if its available.

Nice B&B in a great location, walking distance from many restaurants and even Long Street, if feeling perky. Owner Ruth is friendly and will give you travel advice over breakfast. The area appeared to be safe, even at night and our room was very clean, with views over Table Mountain and the city and a wonderful walk-in shower.

We stayed in Cape Town for four nights as part of our 2 week trip to South Africa and were delighted with our stay in Liberty Lodge. Our room was large, bright, air-conditioned and tastefully decorated, with a good bathroom and lovely views of Table Mountain. We didn't get a chance to sit on the sunny balcony because we were out and about so much, but if we had had a quiet afternoon it would be a lovely place to sit out and enjoy the Cape Town sunshine.

We had high expectations of the breakfasts from the Tripadvisor reviews, and were not disappointed, Lisa made great cooked breakfasts, omelettes and fruit salads every day.

Liberty Lodge is in a safe, quiet part of Cape Town, and only minutes from the cable car up Table Mountain (call before you go up, we were caught out twice 'cos it was closed!) Kloof Street has lots of good restaurants and bars, and Ruth (the owner) kindly recommended a good Thai spa only 5 mins walk away to ease our aching muscles after the long haul flight.

We thought this was excellent value for money and specifically told our friends who live locally that we would recommend it if they had visitors.

This is a small and very friendly place in a good area of Cape Town with great restaurants (Baccini, Arnolds, etc.) in the close vicinity. The owner Ruth and her team are very nice and helpful. If the weather permits the rich and tasty breakfast is served in the courtyard. Since it is a small place it feels like home after a while and you get to know the guests with whom you can exchange experiences about things to do around Cape Town. We stayed at the Liberty Lodge for 11 nights with a 4 day Garden Route Tour with Hylton Ross (good tour but rather older people) in between. There is a refrigerator in the house where one can purchase drinks at very reasonable prices and rooms are furnished very nicely. Ruth also helped us book some good excursions like shark cage diving and the Cape point tour. Only Robin Island needs to be booked in advance because it gets very busy in summer. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for good and friendly accomodation in a safe area of Cape Town. There is also a hairdresser called Hairwise close by which is very good value and run by a South African lady and a Swiss guy, which I highly recommend.

We have stayed at the Liberty Lodge for 3 nights at the Madiba Room on the 1st floor with views over the city and a public terrace. We felt very welcomed from the first moment on. It is a traditional house in a nice and secure neighbourhood, maybe a bit near a busy mainstreet, but it was not disturbing us. You may walk out of the house and find a lot of nice restaurants (especially the Cafe Paradiso with a wonderful little garden and good food/wine). The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The breakfast is served outside (when good weather) on a little patio in the shadow between beautiful flowers.
I can only recommend the Liberty Lodge to customers who do appreciate a nice intimate athmosphere.

We stayed two nights at Liberty Lodge at the start of our 2-week holiday in Cape Town and it's exactly the right place to start! Ruth is a warm and friendly hostess and her wealth of information and advice was a great help to orientate ourselves in this wonderful city. Liberty Lodge is homely yet offers good quality hotel comfort. The breakfast, taken in the courtyard garden, is a grand affair of fresh fruit, cereal, yoghurt, health bread and eggs in any way you like! Don't miss the famous omelette cooked by Lisa!

My husband and I have just returned from South Africa and we spent 6 nights in total at Liberty Lodge. On our arrival, Ruth the owner, had arranged an airport pick-up for us which was really handy as we arrived in late from Ireland and were really tired after the long delayed flight and anxious to get to the Lodge. We stayed in a lovely large double bedroom and on opening the curtains on our first morning, could not get over the amazing views of Table Mountain!! We met Ruth that morning at breakfast, whereby she sat down with us and asked what we would like to see around Cape Town and what our general plan were. She made several great suggestions and went out of her way to book several tours for us. Breakfast is lovely and Lisa makes everyone feel so welcome with her warm smile and cheerfulness. If you are lucky enough, you will get to sample of her now famous omlettes!! The area surrounding Liberty Lodge is safe - we could walk to the several nearby restaurants at night without a problem. On leaving, Ruth once again arranged an airport pick-up for us and packed a food bag for us as we were leaving at 5:45 in the morning. 'All part of the service' was how she put it! Would I stay at Liberty Lodge again - in a flash!!
