“Home away from home”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 September 2013

We stayed at Liberty Lodge for 5 nights at the end of August. We had an amazing stay. The Lodge is beautifully decorated in a art deco style, it has a personal touch which most places lack. The view of Table Mountain from the Terrace is spectacular. The Lodge is in a perfect location, it is a 5 minute walk to Koof street, one of Cape Town's Restaurant and Boutique shop streets. The location gives you a chance to experience Cape Town as a "local" rather than some of the other areas such as the waterfront which feel very touristy. Cape Town is very walkable and generally safe, we never felt unsafe in the city at any point including walking home from dinner at night. We had the pleasure of staying in 2 different rooms at the Lodge and both of them were specious, beautifully decorated and had very comfortable beds. Ruth is an amazing host, she greeted us warmly gave us tons of information on Cape Town and recommend some delicious restaurants. She made our stay so much better we wished we could have stayed longer.

Stayed at Liberty Lodge for 3 nights on a recent trip to South Africa and thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience from start to finish.

Ruth the owner was at the guest house on our arrival and after quickly checking us in, she sat down with us for a few minutes to talk to us about the guest house, the local area and to ask if we needed any help or advice for our time in Cape Town. This was very welcoming and we found it useful. The lodge itself is immaculate throughout. Both public areas and bedrooms are fitted out to a very high standard and were always impeccably clean. Bedrooms were large with huge comfortable beds. Rooms provided everything you could need from cable TV, to heaters for the cooler months to luxury toiletries. The breakfast offered each morning was delicious, consisting of cereal, cheeses, a cooked breakfast and toast, plus juices and hot drinks. We only saw Nita when we were there but she catered for our every need.

The location of Liberty Lodge is also ideal. It isn’t in the centre or near to the Waterfront but it is in a very safe area off Kloof street. There are many restaurants of all cuisines within walking distance and a short taxi ride can take you to the Waterfront or other areas for very reasonable fares. There is also free roadside parking directly outside the lodge. The lodge also gives a great view of table mountain. The biggest draw to this lodge was that it is small, just 5 rooms giving such a personal feel about the place and the service offered, something that can’t be matched by the huge chain hotels. Our expectations were exceeded.

All in all a perfect stay in a great city. Would not hesitate in recommending to anyone, for both business and leisure stays. We really hope we get the chance to return again in the near future to see more of Cape Town and relax once again at Liberty Lodge.

We had a wonderful, relaxing time (after a brutal overnight flight) at this perfectly located setting under the incredible Table Mountain, within walking and driving distance of world-renowned restaurants, beaches, wine country, and much, much more, in the most beautiful city in the world. That is, if you can get out that amazing bed!
Ruth and her team provided excellent service, the warmest hospitality, great conversations and a scrumptious breakfast. You will have the best time at Liberty Lodge.

Room Tip: Get the Rhodes Room, if available.

We stayed in Liberty Lodge for 4 nights in June. The location is just perfect - in a residential safe area, close to many nice restaurants and cafes (5 min walk).
We stayed in Rhodes room with a king size bed and a view to the Table Mountain. The room was big enough, nicely decorated and perfect to our needs. The bathroom with a window was also specious and had toilet amenities (we found a lack of a hairdryer though, but as we had our own with us, that was not an issue). It was a little bit cold in the room though there were a heater and additional blankets, we solved the problem by putting an air-conditioning on 'heat'.
The house itself is very tastefully decorated, with a personal touch. We enjoyed sitting in the common area and sipping a complimentary cherry after our day or having a cup of tea with traditional rusks (hard biscuits).
Ruth is a wonderful host! From the very moment we've stepped in, we were surrounded by warm and welcome atmosphere. Upon arrival we were welcomed by a hot tea and coffee, we got information on the area and suggestions for dinning out. Ruth was very helpful arranging our airport transfer and booking a car for us. We enjoyed our mornings chats very much during a delicious breakfast. There were just a two of us, but everyday we were served with a selection of cereals, yoghurts, jams, cheese and a fresh fruit salad. Lisa also prepared us a hot delicious breakfast every morning which was served very nice.
I would highly recommend to stay here, if you want an unforgettable and positive experience in Cape Town.

Dear "NikLid"

Thank you for all your lovely comments about the Lodge. I very much enjoyed meeting you too, and was really interested to learn a little about life in Russia.

Although not a problem for you, I am sorry you did not find the hairdryer which was in the desk drawer under the large mirror. Hairdryers are a standard in all our rooms.

From our private correspondence, I was pleased that you enjoyed your onward journey and look forward to seeing you again one day - either in Cape Town - or St. Petersburg!

Best wishes

Ruth

If you dislike anonymous, sterile hotels, look no further. And if you're a fan of early 20th century style there is no choice. You simply must book here. Liberty Lodge is heaven for art deco lovers. But even if you're not one of them, this is a beautifully decorated house, in a good location, with lovely views and balcony. What made our stay especially good is Ruth's knowledge and advice. She is a very welcoming owner and we were only too happy to have her book our trips and taxi's. The weather (we stayed in May - early winter) was not brilliant, and we had mixed feelings about Cape Town itself, but our experience in Liberty Lodge was totally positive.

I stayed for 4 nights in October 2012, 2 of them with 2 friends. My review comes late, but I just have to say 'Thank you' to Ruth and her staff for the wonderful experience I got.

Already before we arrived, we got good hints from Ruth with links for ordering tickets to the Table Mountain and Robin Island in advance. She also arranged a pick-up service from the airport which made my arrival very convenient since I arrived late in the evening.

The lodge is beautifully located, with stunning views to the Table Mountain and Lion's Head, and it was fascinating to watch the moving clouds over the Table Mountain from the spacious terrace.
The rooms and the common area were nice and cosy, with very personal touch.

Ruth and her stuff were so thoughtful and supporting, and I loved the breakfast arranged by Lisa.

After my backpack was stolen in Camps Bay, with all money, cards etc, Ruth was so helpful in this situation. I borrowed some cash money from some friends before they left Cape Town, and it was just enough to pay my new passport, the stay at the lodge and the trip to the airport. Ruth left her mobil number to me in case I would experience unexpected problems in this situation. Ruth, thank you so much for that. You made the stay in Cape Town a good experience. Now, after 8 months, I forgot the stolen backpack, but I will not forget you!

Hi M!

Many many thanks for writing about Liberty Lodge and your stay here in Cape Town last October. Time goes so fast but your review illustrates that experiences remain vivid in our minds long after our return. I am so pleased you liked the Lodge, its location and the views from the terrace. And last but not least, Lisa's wonderful breakfasts! Let me take this opportunity to say that I hope you will return one day. My best wishes to you and your friends
