“Warm hospitality in Cape Town”
Reviewed 5 April 2014

My mother, brother and I spent almost a week in Cape Town staying at Liberty Lodge, which is a very comfortable and charming B&B. It is very well located for a wide range of activities in Cape Town, and visitors can safely walk to many of the excellent local restaurants and cafes. The owner, Ruth, and her staff, in particular Lisa, made us feel quite at home from the moment we arrived. The rooms afforded a lot of privacy and the lounge was a pleasant area to sit and read or relax. Breakfasts on the patio or in the dining room were wonderfully fresh with generous servings of whatever was on offer each day. The opportunity to meet and chat with Ruth and the other guests from around the world was a bonus. Everyone compared notes on the best places and restaurants to visit, which complemented Ruth's good local knowledge. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Upstairs is best, with great views from the terrace.

Liberty Lodge is one of the more delightful places I have ever stayed! Ruth has created the perfect combination of comfort, charm, service and convenience in a great location. My room (Madiba) opened out to a beautiful veranda with an unbelievable view of Table Mountain! She greeted me warmly at a somewhat awkward hour and immediately helped me feel at home, and my room was fabulously decorated and extremely comfortable with all modern conveniences. Breakfast in her garden courtyard was charming and delicious, with fascinating conversation with her international guests. She has fantastic (and appropriate) advice for restaurants, many of whom are within walking distance! I asked for food that I couldn't eat anywhere else, and later that day I was dining on ostrich, gemsbok (oryx), crocodile ribs and wart hog ribs (all amazing!). A discerning and meticulous host, Ruth has a great attention to detail that I appreciate. I hope to be back and this is my new go-to place to stay!

From Ruth's greeting, to a very comfortable room (Tolkien), to the location near the upper end of Kloof Street, Liberty Lodge worked perfectly for my Cape Town stay, and it will work perfectly for your C T stay. It isn't much to look at from the outside, but once you enter the front door, you'll feel very comfortable. Ruth and her staff (Lisa has a smile that spans the continent) know how to help you but then know how to leave you alone. The ground-floor Tolkien opens up to its own private patio (after breakfast), and that made for fresh air and the soothing sounds of birds -- and, since it's away from the street, very little traffic noise. You'll be close to some great restaurants on Kloof, and Ruth will suggest several. If I'm ever lucky enough to return to the Mother City, you can bet I'll book Liberty Lodge.

Room Tip: Once again, the Tolkien room was quiet and had its own private patio (after breakfast). And a great...

We had the best stay at Liberty Lodge - the place is just beautiful.

Ruth kindly afforded us the Rhodes room which was breathtakingly beautiful.

The views alone of table mountain would be worth it.

Ruth is an exceptional host, it is clear that she cares about each and every guest that stays with her and is always willing to help you out.

The entire house was just stunning - the sitting room could have been lifted straight out of the pages of Home Beautiful.

The area was really central and it was nice staying a little bit back from the hustle and bustle - made for a silent night sleep.

The breakfasts were amazing - fresh and delicious.

I left kicking and screaming as I didnt want our time here to end.

Thankyou Ruth for such an amazing stay in Cape Town. We will be back.

Room Tip: Rhodes Room - its a knockout

We stayed in Liberty Lodge after a two weeks round trip in SA. The Host welcomed us in a familiar way and was accessible for all the informations you need during your stay: where to eat, where to shop, how to organize your day trips etc. Liberty Lodge is perfectly situated: long street just in walking distance, camps bay with a car is easily reached, and you have a view on table mountain from the terrace while having your last glass of wine in the evenings! Friendly room service and chic interior design.
Perfect location for us, we enjoyed our stay!

My wife and I just spent 5 nights in Cape Town with Ruth at the Liberty Lodge. Ruth and her staff were extremely helpful in providing advice and assisting with bookings at various attractions around Cape Town. The lodge is very centrally located and all attractions are easily reached. The lodge has great style, with both African and English touches evident. Bed was comfortable and we had a spacious terrace overlooking Table Mountain. Excellent variety of reasonable priced restaurants abound a short walk down the hill!

Why stay anywhere else in Cape Town??

Room Tip: Our room had direct access to the terrace which was nice.

We recently stayed at The Lodge for 9 nights and had an excellent time. The location was perfect for us with the town centre and its many delights between 20-25 minutes walk away. The wonderful V & A Waterfront is walkable (45-50 minutes) as well. I would recommend getting a cab back though as it's a mainly uphill walk ! The Lodge is a mere 5 minutes drive from Table Mountain and the beach resorts of Camps Bay & Clifton are 10 minutes drive away too. Tamboerskloof (where the Lodge is) is a quiet, residential neighbourhood that is completely safe and has a number of fine restaurants to sample. Ruth was a friendly and helpful hostess and provided us with many tips and ideas to make best use of our time. She was also kind enough to help out by printing out our boarding passes as well prior to our return ! She also booked cabs for us to make sure we got to the cricket & airport on time as well as arranging for our car-hire. Breakfast in the courtyard (when weather allows) is a fine opportunity to meet fellow guests and swap ideas and suggestions about places to visit or things to try. Ruth's team are very friendly and deliver a fine breakfast every morning as well as leaving your room tidy for your return from your day out. The Lodge is clean, well furnished with satellite TV and a strong (free) WIFI signal so you can keep in touch with the wider world. The Lodge also allows for great views of Table Mountain from the first floor terrace. I'd recommend this place as a fine place to spend your holidays and explore Cape Town from and would not hesitate to return if I am ever in Cape Town again.

Room Tip: Rooms on the 1st floor (Madiba / Gandhi) open out on to the terrace.
