We stayed in the Sunset Room, and it was nice. If you are a couple, check out the view from the bedroom window and look right ;)
This place was really clean and mostly quiet. There are areas in the hotel that sound tends to travel/echo and can be loud. But in general it is quiet. The deck overlooks the main road and is nice to hangout in the mornings with a cup of tea/coffee. If possible, I would suggest looking at the room before you book. If you are picky. there were a couple rooms that some may find not "normal" or "weird". It just depends on your taste. The staff is incredibly nice and helpful. Had lots of suggestions for places to eat and see. Location is great. Easy walk to several great restaurants and hangouts.
It is not your standard hotel room...if you are looking for something different and fun but still has high standards this is definitely your place.

Room Tip: Sunset room was nice

Being in our mid forties we were probably older than most of the guests, but it didn't matter at all. We stayed for three nights, each night in a different room. Highly recommended. The hotel is spotless, with someone at reception 24/7. WiFi was a bit spotty in some rooms, but not a big drama. We parked on the street, and the car was fine.

Minor drawback was carrying heavy cases up and down three flights of stairs. No porter, no lift. We didn't experience any of the noise mentioned in other reviews, and stayed at the front and rear.

Recommended for a unique expereince

Greetings from Daddy Long Legs

Thanks for sharing your stay with us. We pride ourselves on being completely different so we do offer all guests to see all our rooms during their stay, or at least as many as possible.

Unfortunately due to our building being a heritage site, we'll never be able to make any structural changes, but on a plus side it adds that little more character and vintage appeal to our establishment.

All the best and we look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

Kind Regards

The Daddy Long Legs engages you from the moment you step through the door. There are so many cool details, it really is like a treasure hunt. Each room is themed differently and has interesting names like "open" and "public phone".
The girl who greeted us at reception was very friendly and helpful. She offered us our complimentary welcome drink and passed me a book of photos of the hotel, when I showed interest.
The only negative I have to add is that it is slightly rough around the edges. The funky designs are coming appart ever so slightly, like the window blinds and shag carpet. And the shower needs a good scrubbing.
I think this is a great place to have loads of fun with friends. It is right in the center of all the Long Street buzz, and you are likely to meet new friends in the common areas of the hotel.

Room Tip: If you have bad knees, ask for one of the lower floor rooms.

My friend and I spent three nights here. We initially had the Protea Room - which she and I started to refer to as the Black Room. Pros of this room - it had two twin beds and an air con. Beds comfy. Cons of the room - you could see through the shower door - a bit strange when you are bunking with your friend. The room is black and there is a small window at the top. There were no bedside tables in the room so we ended up having to put most of the stuff on the floor. We then switched to the Fresh room. Much better light and it had a fun ambiance to it. Downside for us was that it only had a double bed. However, there was a door on the bathroom this time around! We paid 900 ZAR for the first two nights that we booked on-line and I overheard someone checking in at 750 ZAR a night. Not sure why there was a difference but I didn't bother to ask.

Pros of DLL - location. Was centrally located and had a secure entrance. Staff was very pleasant and helpful. I had left my hat on a tour bus and the guy at the front desk called up the tour company for me without my having to ask him to do it. Nice deck overlooking Long St. Beds comfy.
Cons - the Black Room. I would suggest trying for a different one unless you like black. The two rooms we stayed in were on the small side but I wasn't overly surprised due to the nature of the hotel. There were no phones or TVs in the rooms we were in. No restaurant. That didn't bother me but if you are looking for a higher level of service and amenities, this probably isn't the place for you.

As with some of the earlier reviews - I did see a massive cockroach on the steps but I wasn't deterred by it and didn't bother to tell the staff. You do have to climbs steps - again, not a problem for me but was a little tough for a couple of days after hiking table mountain.

Hi There

Thanks for the great feedback of your stay with us. We pride ourselves on offering unique accomodation and offering guests the opportunity to check out all our rooms while they are staying with us. So we encourage checking out different rooms as some rooms could be ideal for some people but not as ideal for others. Its more than a pleasure to have helped you try locate your hat lost on your tour, very unfortunate that we could not locate it though.

All the best and we look forward to welcoming you back again.

Great small hotel in central Cape Town. Love the arty and quirky touches. The terrace is the perfect space with great views up and down long street planning your night or day.
Try the loo in the reception area!
