We stayed here during the world cup and it was brilliant!! Definitely our favourite place we stayed during our month travelling through South Africa. The location is great, the staff are friendly and the decor is awesome. This place oodles character. Can't wait to come back and try out another room!

I enjoyed my week long stay at DLL B Hotel. I never tired of returning from my conference and entering a hotel room with a difference. No TV for a distraction...great. Though I did get distracted getting a look in at some of the unoccupied rooms. Its basic accomodation, friendly, helpful staff and so much more than your regular hotel room.

One of a Kind. The Emergency room was stayed in. A good description of general information for tourists are available. The staff are friendly and well informed. The room was neat and well designed for the open minded person. We will surely stay in other rooms in the very near future. See you soon.

When we stopped outside the hotel in Long street our first thoughts were we that we are in a bit of trouble. But it was a pleasant surprise! Even the staircase, a bit challenging for the elderly, was inviting and created a sense of expectation. The staff that welcomed us were very friendly and warm. But the biggest surprise were the rooms. We booked 4 rooms for the night and it was interesting to compare and read the history of each room. It was a great stay and would recommend it to others.

Stayed in the palimpsest room on the third floor. Really nice staff and room- excellent atmosphere. Common area was comfortable, had free internet access, a bar (behind reception) and books about other art hotels. Negatives were the noise through the night (although staying on Long Street it wasn't unexpected) and the fact that there was no lift- a bit scary making your way up and down with luggage. All in all really nice place, would go back. Just a heads up- they recommend Mama Africa for dinner- nice setting but the meals we had were ordinary at best.

For the record, I am rating Daddy Long Legs on value-for-money. And even during the World Cup (when I suspect the prices were jacked a little), this place came in as one of the highest value-for-money experiences I've had. Sure, the rooms are small...but how much time do you spend sitting in a room if you can roam Cape Town? Also, the beds are really comfortable. And on the most important things I rate for experiences in hotels -- location, enthusiasm/quality of staff, reflection of the travel experience I was expecting -- this place rocks. This place is a wonderful set of contradictions: center of the city and yet the staff and guests make it feel like a cosy B&B; funky rooms in a creaky building yet there is silence at night (at least in the two rooms we were in); low brow expectations (3 Star) yet free coffee, muffins, internet, etc. I loved this place!

Scored 3 nights mid-week with Francois' team at DLL during the World Cup. From the moment we arrived [4 hours before check-in] the staff were attentive and genuinely psyched to have us there. They gladly watched our stuff and sent us on our way to explore their city. Long Street can be like Bourbon Street pretty much every night of the week - at least during the WC - but the hotel itself/rooms were silent. The rooms are funky and designed/decorated exactly as advertised, though a bit smaller than I expected [about the size of a dorm room] No wardrobe/dresser to store your stuff, so expect to step over it when your in your room. Bathrooms were clean and modern. As for the rooms this place is definitely for the travel who likes the funkiness of the place and doesn't mind the cramped quarters. If it's a Hyatt-sized room you want check out Grand Daddy down the street.
Back to the staff - they know it ALL. Restaurants, bars, tours...they'll hook you up with the best, locals style. We ended-up with a personalized tour of wine country that couldn't have been booked with any tour company [at a much cheaper rate].
If I rave any more about this place and people you'll think I'm shilling for them -- inquiries welcome. JC
