“Super, safe and very friendly boutique hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 July 2009

I was very plesantly suprised upon arrival at the location, layout and accessability of this hotel. I really savoured the room size and facilities. The staff from top to bottom were exceptionally helpful and accomodating. They have a can do policy. If in Cape Town again I will stay here again.

Let's face it, even Cape Town is a little scary from a crime perspective. You really should not walk the streets alone. Yet, Sugar Hotel provides a safe haven just minutes from the harbor. Their hospitality is outstanding. The receptionist arranged a late night dinner reservation and taxi for me. Breakfast was awesome! Rooms were roomy. Shower rocked.

After several sleepless nights in another hotel in a busier area of Cape Town I opted to spend my last night before flying to Europe at the Sugar Hotel. I could not have been happier... The staff were exceptional and catered to my every whim; the room was a little small but had everything I could have asked for; Bathroom and balcony (with private mini-pool) were excellent; Price was right relative to other choices; Restaurant and pool area great; and either a short stroll or cab ride to everywhere you may want to go in Cape Town. Would go back in a second.

We booked the Sugar Hotel for a family holiday over New Year 2007. On the website the hotel looked great - but didn't show that the hotel is right beside the motorway running through Cape Town. The rooms were a good size and facilities in general were fine. The staff were extremely unhappy - I had imagined a small boutique hotel managed my friendly owners but the owner never even took the time to introduce himself even though we were staying for 9 nights in his hotel. Service at breakfast was extremely slow and they even ran out of the most common items.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for sparing a moment to post a comment about us on this site.
We are a learning organisation and thus would like to let you know that we have taken to heart your evaluation of The Sugar Hotel and Spa. We are excited to let you know that we have taken substantive steps to iron our all the creases that you highlighted as shortcomings in our product and service offering.
As you will note on your next visit here and as testified by the review by NeverGoingBackToWork, the mood in our team is upbeat and saturated with eagerness to go all out for all our Guests and guarantee a pleasantly way beyond expectations delivery.
Regarding the traffic noise that you conspicuosly note,we are excited to let you know that wea have added another set of movable glass window to bring about a TRIPPLE GLAZE effect in all our Main Road facing rooms. The effect is phenomenal peaceful sleep for all our Guests in all our Luxury Rooms.
We look forward to welcoming and hosting you here for a sweet and warm experience on your next visit here.

I stayed at Sugar Hotel for 4 nights and the hotel was super and the staff lovelly. Very clean and also thoughtful - whatever I needed the hotel could not do enough to help or be nice to me.
Would definately go back.

I found this hotel and fell in love with the website and tripadvisor reviews. I was looking for somewhere special to take my partner for her birthday during our trip to Cape Town.

Everything went fine until I tried to book the hotel, which was complete mission. They wanted a faxed photocopy of the front and the back of my credit card and of my passport before they would confirm the reservation. It was all too difficult when there is so much choice in the market and I ended up booking the Cape Cove hotel on their website, it took 30 seconds!!

I am sure it is a great property, however I was not prepared to go to the lengths and risks required of sending all my personal and financial details over the wires.

We stayed at the Sugar Hotel for 5 days and loved it. It is a small hotel (7 suites) very close to the Waterfront area. Everything is new and first class. The style is very modern and our suite had bunk beds in the second room, which was great for our daughter--plus they had a free Playstation in the kids room. Breakfast was included, but ala carte, so you were not bound by buffet hours. And the best part was the staff; they were very friendly and helpful. This was definitely superior to being in a large hotel. We were there for leisure, but it would be perfect for a business traveler too. Free WiFi in every room and a communal computer in the lobby. You couldn't ask for more.
