We stayed at this guest house for 2 nights in July, 2011. The hotel was recommended to us by a friend from Pretoria. The hotel was perfect. It was very conveniently located in a fun and interesting central neighbourhood. Our room was pretty and beautifully decorated. In fact, the whole hotel was beautiful, clean, and quiet. Derek, the owner, was gracious and helpful. A breakfast basket is left by your door in the morning, which you can take up to the roof-top patio and enjoy the glorious view of the ocean and Table Mountain. Breafast was simple but good. I would definitely stay here again.

the room is so small that there is no place for your suitecase. The staff is very helpfull and nice. The location is very good. The breakfast was very poor. Every day different (1 croissant + 1 roll one day, 2 croissants the other day and that for 2 persons!!).
Good secure parking behind the building.

Cape Town respite

You will have to look hard to find a better home-away-from-home in Cape Town than this spot: 17 On Loader Guest House. I have stayed in Green Point, Bantry Bay and elsewhere in the ‘Mother city’ – but this is my top choice for value and proximity to hot spots.
Owner Derek [] and manager Ben made me feel welcome (despite arriving close to midnight on a Sunday), while the house staff, Anthony and Barbara saw to the small things really count (early-morning breakfast baskets – the correct adapter for my phone charger, etc). There’s a nice selection of rooms (singles and doubles) every one is different and graciously appointed, all with easy access to the common rooms and street-front views. Though I found eating out at local restaurants more enticing [Andiamo at Cape Quarter is excellent for Italian everything and lively every night of the week – go to Soho for the sushi!], I would have been tempted to make use of the excellent kitchen in the main house. Next time.

Though I could only stay six days, I wish I’d had another week to enjoy the top-drawer amenities.

Ben and his staff were very helpful; they made every effort to answer my questions, make bookings and organize taxis when requested.
Breakfast was delicious, with a selection of continental options, and could be taken in your room, in the dining area or on the rooftop terrace. The decor of the house was tasteful.
Security was good, which I felt was important as a single traveller. The position was good, roughly between City Bowl and the Waterfront and within walking distance of both.
I would definitely visit again, and want to thank all those who had previously written all the good reviews I read!

We enjoyed a great stay at 17 on Loader: it was the last two nights of our amazing trip to SA. Dirk, Anthony, and Barbara went out of their way to ensure we had a great stay at the guest house and in Cape Town. They made solid recommendations regarding our itinerary as well as restaurants.

Our room was lovely and in a nice quiet location. There are many options for lounging around or enjoying a drink in the guest house, whether it be in one of the indoor lounges or outdoor patios.

The breakfast baskets in the morning are fantastic, and you can choose to dine in your room, on your private patio, on the roof top patio overlooking Table Mountain, or in the kitchen: what a choice!! The continental breakfast has a great variety of items, with additional items available in the kitchen.

We truly appreciated Dirk allowing us to stay later in our room. We had a late flight, and this enabled us to have a quick shower and clean up before our long journey home.

This is a great guest house in a central location. It is within walking distance of many attractions, and has good dining options that you can safely walk to in the evening. We would highly recommend this guest house! Thanks Dirk, Anthony, and Barbara!

It's been two years since I was at 17. Was Very cool to be back. And so many changes equally.New room interiors- very good new art collection with lots of plants and refurbished roof deck.

Thank you Ben and Hadrien for giving me all the new tip of the new places in de Waterkant. Your suggestions of the new Rocka greek restaurant and especially the Toro Wine bar was so cool.

Thanks again guys! See you soon.
