“all about the view”
Reviewed 22 May 2014

we arrived quite late and in the dark could not see the building, as it was so high above the road. we saw number 5 and a 6 but where was 4? eventually we did find the right bell but after 2 other conversations with neighbours, not great after a late arriving flight and a drive there. The access via steps is not easy and staff were not able to help as we lugged heavy suitcases up. The room smelt damp, next day we were told to leave a wondow open to aid ventilation. It was clean and we were welcomed with a pot of coffee. next morning we saw the spectacular view, was ot worth it all for the view? probably not!

Well thanking you ever so much for the review....!!! we are always happy to have some one venting there opinion. We were in fact waiting for you for approx. 2 to 3 hrs hence you were late. We go out of our way to wait up all night for you but we are too happy to do that... It would of been great if you could of given us a call and tell us you are running late.

Then I explained that I had a broken foot an could not help you. But helped you the rest of your departure and next arrival with a cast on my foot....!

Then I just want to put the record straight ... the room is not damp and yes we simply open a window for a bit of fresh Cape air... but we really appreciate your vent and wish you all the very best we will then keep our heads high and invite any one to come and give us a bash and see that the view and everything els is defiantly with it......!!!!!!

Regards JAMIN manager.

Was in CT spending a few nights after a friends wedding. Wanted to be close to the city bowl, and with friends living in Tamboerskloof decided to search in the area. Came across Radium Hall and never looked back. The price is a little steep, but not out of line with other CT B&B's. Room was exceptionally comfortable and spacious, the views from the room and patio were incredible.
Breakfast leaves a lot to be desired, and perhaps a "bed only" option should be considered, as there are many great breakfast places withing walking distance. However, will definitely not be looking elsewhere on my next trip down to CT.

Rooms and the house is fine, but one room is directly beneath the dining room so that you can hear each word which is spoekn there in the morning, one room is with a great view but also each guest who comes can see in this room because it is beneath the entrance.

I was visiting capetown for the first time to attend a wedding of a friend who lived in tamboerskloof. Wanting to be near the family we opted to stay in this region and I am so glad we did! It is a very safe area, set back off the busy roads and beautifully peaceful. Prices for accocodation in this area vary but we chose Radium hall due to it's good reviews and pictures of the amazing view of table mountain and we were not dissapointed. Being used to the ridiculous rates of London we were slightly dubious that all may not be as it seems because of the low price, but when we arrived it supparsed all expectations. The rooms are so spacious, clean and well presented. The bed was so comfy I regretted having to get up and enjoy the city and the bathroom always clean and very modern. Best of all is the view, every room has a balcony that opens out onto the most breathtaking view of table mountain, lions head abd out across the whole of cape town, which is just as beautiful at night with a bottle of wine on the terrace as it is in the glorious morning sunshine over breakfast. We were greeted by Julia who let us in, gave us the keys, kindly brought us some cold juice and let us be, there was no fuss, no big sell and after a long flight it was perfect. We stayed for 6 nights and by the end it felt like home. Julia and all the other staff were so helpful, nothing was too much trouble and always with a smile. The owner was also around periodically through out the day, so helpful, full of usefull local information and happy to assist in anyway. If you walk 10 minutes down the road Tamboerskloof itself is a maze of cool and relaxed bars and destination restaurants, it is a hilly region so may not be walkable for older people or those with small children but a cab to kloofneck road is 30 rand (1.50) abd can be hailed from the streets. It is not walking distance from the center of cape town but cabs are so reliable and affordable (expect to pay about 40 rand to the waterfront, which is about £2.50) and I would say it was definatly a price I was happy to pay for the amazing views from radium hall. I will absolutely be going back!

This was our first trip to South Africa, and I was performing Best Man duties at my friend's wedding. He was marrying a girl from Cape Town so they told us the most convenient place to stay would be in the Tamboerskloof area where Radium Hall is situated.

It is in a lovely safe neighbourhood where you can walk solo/as a couple any time day or night. There are some really cool cocktail bars and restaurants within about 10mins walk, which wouldn't be out of place in London (think trendy Hoxton or Shoreditch but for all age ranges and social groups). There's also a 'Mini Mart' which sells all sorts of useful stuff like alcohol, snacks, and plug converters (we couldn't find any UK 3-pin converters anywhere else in UK or SA).

The rooms themselves are lovely and well-appointed. Big comfortable beds and hot showers. Plenty of storage space, all our normal clothes and wedding suits/dresses paraphernalia fitted with ease.

The views from the terrace just outside the rooms, and indeed from bed, were spectacular. Table Mountain, Lion's Head and Devil's peak are all breath-taking. Unobstructed viewing for 180 degrees.

The staff are very friendly, owned by Margie and run by her son day-to-day, he will help you out with whatever you want. Julia (the maid) makes a mean breakfast and the fruit/yoghurt, toast, and eggs/bacon etc will fill you up for the morning and through to lunch no problem, even if you decide to hike up the mountains.

Cabs into the Waterfront or into town are easy to order (we used Excite cabs) and cost between 35-70 Rand. Because the pound is SO strong at the moment this was an absolute snip. The average cab fare was about 45, it only cost 70 at peak times.

The only downside was the slightly patchy WiFi, which my iPad had trouble finding in the room, and even sitting in the public areas nearer the router. My girlfriend's HTC One smartphone had slightly better luck in the communal area. However, staying in other hotels in CT, I think this WiFi problem is endemic to SA, and local Cape Townians confirmed this, so it's not really Radium Hall's fault.

The price is also amazing. I had to double-check I hadn't missed out a zero off the bill. SO much better than the other places people from our wedding party stayed at.

In summary, this is the best kept secret in CT, and I would advise you to book in advance and stay here over any other hotel/guest house. It will transform an already good city break, into a truly great one.

Having stayed in quite a few guest houses as a South African resident my expectation are always very high. This view is as good as it gets with uninterrupted views of Table Mountain in a very quiet culdesac yet a 10 minute walk to the best restaurants on Kloof street. The rooms are luxurious with the most comfortable bed and linen, and I am very fussy. Julia was a wonderful host for breakfast and we felt relaxed taking in the views and enjoying breakfast at a slow pace.

Comfortably and tastefully furnished with a sense of home and enough space for all guests to feel like the only ones there. I would say not the ideal location for very young children as there is a definite sense of romance in the air!

Spotless and well sized rooms. Thank you Jammen and Julia for making our stay so enjoyable.

Room Tip: All the rooms looked great.

The room was big and very clean. The bed was big and very confortable. The staff have been very friendly. It is a reall good place for staying in Cape Town.
