We stayed at the Acorn House for 15 days and had a fantastic time. The breakfast buffet is extraordinary and a bit different every day (e.g. a fish day offers smoked salmon and other smoked fish, on other days the hosts' German roots are on display with delicious German sausage and spreads), eggs freshly made any way you like. After this you can actually skip lunch.
The property is extremely well taken care of and all the interiors are very well appointed with antiques and African art.
Personal care seems to be the main credo of this B&B, from 7 AM - 11 PM there is always someone to recommend restaurants or attractions or just call a taxi for you or chat about how your day was. The bed is already made when you come back from breakfast and turned down for you at night. The lounge area with its fireplace (and nice wine list / bar/ complimentary port wine) is a nice hang out after a long day of exploring Cape Town and the peninsula. Some fancy food shopping is available right across the street as well as there is a food delivery service (which we used on rainy days). But a lot of really nice restaurants are close by on Kloof Street.
If I had to mention a downside, after long and hard thinking the only thing I can come up with is that it might not be the most ideal place to bring a 2 year old toddler. Though everyone was very lovely (the staff sang happy birthday for him in Xhosa!) and we had an extra crib for him in the room. All the nicely displayed artifacts and trinkets made for a constant chase of our little one, and the old wooden floors made his steps boom through the whole house (sorry again fellow guests). But he loved playing with the resident cat and dog and felt very much at home, often we would find him in the kitchen with the staff.
I also enjoyed the free WLAN connection a lot.
