Reviewed 18 January 2010

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 2 weeks, the staff were very helpfull and helped us organise lots of day trips and helped as much as they could with anything you needed to no.

They would always be able to arrange taxis for you within minutes of you needing them. The rooms were very clean and spacious, its a very funky sort of hotel in a good way, with very unusual decorative private and public rooms. There is a very comfortable, relaxed feeling to the hotel, very nice to sit and just have a few drinks at night.

They have a reputation for having the best milkshakes with a huge variaties, the chocolate brownie has to be tried. We found the hotel food to be amazing, we tried a few different meals and they were excellent everytime and very good value for money.

The location of this hotel was about a 5 minute taxi to the V&A waterfront. Despite what some people may say i would NOT recommend walking around the local area, Long Street etc at night time, unless will locals that you can trust and know the area very well. Although during the day is fine enough to walk around the markets etc, i would just always be aware of the people around you and keep an eye out.

We had 8 nights in this very stylish, modern, clean and well suited hotel. The pool and fitness area are nice, breakfast was superb, room was very clean and modern. You can walk down to Long Street, parking is available on the street or in a garage, the area is safe. Staff is friendly, atmosphere is excellent for business or travel. WiFi is included, speed is fine.

Well i'm not too sure where to start as other peoples comments are as positive too - but main points are -

Check In - i arrived quite earlier than expected approx 9-30am but the check in was very fast & we were allowed a room right away (upgrade to Table Mt view) which i was promised in April when i reserved a room.

Bedroom - as others have said the rooms arn't huge but furnished well enough, flat screen tv, wifi, plenty of clothes space, Bose soundwave radio etc....also the maid service was excellent - theres a light outside your room door - u switch it to red for the maid to stay out or blue for her to come in, quite novel idea i thought lol..
Also the showers are red hot, very roomy, and the bathrooms huge too.

Pool deck - the pool is very small up on level 1 but the whole pool floor level is cool with a huge area to sit around with pool one side and table mt view on the verandah at the rear of the hotel, it also has a bar there and wifi area.

Main Bar - the staff were friendly enough but yeah sometimes slow to serve you or give you your change, its also a little bit pricey in comparison to Long Street bars etc...but not scandalously so. We bought a cooler bag and beers in off licence and the bar guys gave us ice every time we asked to fill our bag so overall they were great.
Also checkout the funky smoke room in the bar, the seats are coffins lol and the cigarette machine was a tombstone, very funky touches.
Then you must check out the toilets, all i can say is go try all 6 lol for the experience.
Also the bar menu was very good and reasonably priced, we didn't try breakfast as de pasco cafe near long street did a full english for around 60 rand.

Hotel Reception - the reception was always fully staffed and the staff are all quite young & helpful in many ways too, free internet vouchers, beach towels etc...advice on places to go etc...

New Years Eve Party - the hotel really push the boat out for the New Yrs Party, erecting a huge marquee outside , organised a disco/club night which was free to guests, 350rand to public - and it was very busy till 5am ish.

Location - looking on a map at home you can't really guage how far the hotel is away from places, but i walked to most places from the hotel at least once - Long street is 5 min around the corner, 20 minute walk to lower long street/train station/shopping malls in CBD etc...
If your reasonably fit you can walk to Waterkant/Greenpoint/Waterfront areas in 30 min but its along a main road/footpath - taxi is 10min and approx 50 rand
Taxi to Camps Bay is approx 80 rand, and to the cable car station/signal hill 50 rand too.

As for the hotel decor - i thought it was very trendy, vibrant colours, comfy furniture, neon/led lighting effects everywhere, i would say this hotel is more suited to the 18-40 types personally!

The Manager - big thankyou to Anton the hotel manager - very friendly & helpful young man - he has a big sticker on his glass office by reception saying "please disturb me" lol...he also rang my airline for me from his office when i needed to change a flight urgently, he also did his best to book me into a joburg sister hotel which was fully booked but it was still out of our price range but big effort for his attitude and helpfullnes.

Also as we extended our stay by 5 days we took advantage of an offer which only cost us 495rand per night extra, very cheap for the standard of hotel.

I would definitly stay here again the staff are ace, location is ace for the bars on long street, mountain etc...keep up the good work. If your heading to the World Cup book in here very fast!

This hotel is very different with a theme of fire and ice throughout. Great value for money and in easy reach of most sights on foot - waterfront (25 mins), fort (15 mins), Long Street (5 mins), station (15 mins), Table mountain cable car (5 mins in cab).

Lovely rooms with modern facilities, great gym and very small swimming pool. Its in a city centre location, we felt very comfotable walking round the streets.

We only used teh breakfast buffet once and it was good. However we ate at Cafe depasco, turn right outside hotel then right at end of rd then two blocks down street. Very reasonable and good quality

Avoided eating at waterfront - far more authentic and cheaper restaurants throughout the city

On the down side the bar service was shockingly slow, 20 mins to get served, the lifts were also very slow but we just walked!

The Fire and Ice is a really modern cool and comfortable hotel. The hotel exceeded our expectations, and the staff were helpful and friendly. We stayed in an executive room with table mountain view. We would not have stayed in a standard room if we had a choice, as those were very small with bathrooms integrated in the room (we saw one during cleaning). The executive room on the other hand was quite normal for a 4 star hotel, (which we can´t believe the Fire & Ice isn´t.) but be aware that you can see the other person showering through a window in the room. Maybe not so great for friends and and parents with children etc. The room service is great, (24 hour) everything went fine, the only problem we had was that we had to return to reception to code our room cards every day when we came back to the hotel. (almost 7/7 days) The location is at the top of Long Street, so it´s ok to walk, even in the evening. Just be aware of streetkids trying to get money off you. There is free wireless internet at the hotel (everywhere incl. rooms), which is great. It was a perfect hotel for our Cape Town holiday.

Stayed at Fire & Ice for the second time and loved it just as much as the first time!

Fire & Ice has nicely designed rooms (though not big) with attention to details. As this was our second stay at the hotel, they offered a nice discount on the room making it a very attractive choice.

Staff are the friendliest and will do anything to make sure that you have a nice stay. The neighborhood is good - close to Company Gardens and Longstreet. Lovely breakfast. I love Fire & Ice - almost as much as I love Cape Town! Next time I go I will definitely return to this hotel again!
