Really great food at the Protea Fire & Ice - honestly one of our best meals in Cape Town.

My mum had stayed here a couple of years before and had loved it so we decided to visit for old times sake and were not disappointed.

Great service, great toilets and a memorable experience all round - keep up the good work.

Will definitely be back...

I stayed for a week in this modern hotel. It as fancy but cosy design (with thematic elevators), nice bar at the lobby, very good breakfast (qualaty and diversity). Rooms are tiny but filled up with big and comfortables beds. Shower almost in the room (glass wall) with no curtain. Friendly staff and a walking distance to Long St. There is a convenient park garage in the same building

I stayed here with my Boyfriend to end our trip of the area. We got a taxi from the airport after dropping off our hire car and it was around 30 minutes and about £25.
We arrived around midday so our room was not ready. We did find the reception staff a little unfriendly on arrival. Not very welcoming. The bar staff were much friendlier and we waited in the bar and tried one of their fantastic milk shakes (there are so many flavours to chose from).
The public areas in the hotel are very trendy and quirky. The toilets all have themes as do the lifts which is quite unusual.
Our room was fairly compact but we had read previous reviews so expected that. The layout was pretty good so the space was used well and there was a big flat screen on the wall and much to my boyfriend's delight, the wifi was free!
The shower is in the main bedroom but that didn't bother us. You can draw a curtain for more privacy. It is probably one of the best showers for a hotel...the shower head is huge so I did not want to get out!
The room had a laptop safe so was a good size to fit everything in. There was tea and coffee making facilities as well.
The hotel pool is fairly small but good enough for a dip. Unfortunately, there is not much space for sunbathing but we didn't have much time for that anyway. There is a lounge area up on first floor which was nice and quiet to relax in after a busy day of sight seeing.
In terms of the location, it would have been nice to have been a little closer to the V&A Waterfront, however there were plenty of restaurants and bars on Long Street (Try Royale Cafe for great burgers) all within a 5 minute walk and the sightseeing bus stop is about 5 minutes away too.
We only encountered one problem during our stay when our air conditioning stopped working one night and the hotel had a party going on downstairs so it was very noisy with the window open. The Night Manager on duty did not seem to understand the problem initially so it did take a while to resolve. Otherwise, it was a comfortable hotel to use as a base in the most fantastic city and would certainly return or recommend to others.

We stayed at the Protea Fire and Ice for 3 nights and were very impressed. It's modern (with a young and quirky feel) and the rooms are a reasonable size with a very comfortable bed and pillows. Not everybody would want the shower and basin in the room but there is a curtain that can shut off that end of the room if required. We had a snack in the bar area and also a room service meal during our stay and the food is very tasty. On both occasions service was a little slow but I have marked the hotel high due to later events (see below). As we had a late flight back to the UK we checked out and left our cases. On retrieving them we were given a free hotel room in which we could shower and change which was impressive. At the airport my husband realised he had left his glasses in the taxi so he rang the hotel and the helpful staff contacted the driver (booked through them) who was able to return with the glasses. They then rang to check we had got them.
We normally stay in 5* hotels (but knew we would be out and about in Cape Town, spending little time in the room) and felt we received 5* service. The only thing that lets the hotel down is that is is a taxi ride to the V&A Waterfront but on the other hand it is possible to walk to Company's Gardens and Greenmarket Square and also to a Hop on/off Bus Stop.
