Derwent House Boutique Hotel

We had a fantastic 4 nights in Cape Town and loved staying at Derwent House. The hotel is very stylish and in an awesome location... walking distance down the stylish Kloof Street into the centre of town (lots of fashionable shops and cafes), but a safe and quiet residential area a short drive to Table Mountain and Camps Bay, and with ample street parking. The staff were excellent and extremely helpful and friendly. The jacuzzi and pool area is also great. Lovely turn down with heated blankets turned on.

A few minor points that management should consider (thankfully outweighed by the positives for us):
Breakfast was slightly disappointing. Taking orders and making the cooked option took too long when some guests are eager to get out and to start seeing the city.
During our 4 nights we were surprised not to see the owners in the hotel, however the staff were all very competent and helpful.
There is some residential street noise in the front rooms but the views make up for it.

Overall we loved the hotel and would stay again in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: Room 4 for space and amazing table mountain views from inside. Room 1 much smaller but has a privat...

When we arrived in late October, we were greeted by name at the door. We stayed for two nights and found Derwent House to be excellent in every way. It is a stylish hotel with very comfortable rooms. Our room had a lovely bathroom, comfy bed, and two balconies, one overlooking the beautiful pool and gardens. The common areas are decorated very nicely and are used by many guests. The fireplace on a cool evening was a treat!! The staff are so friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating. They recommended tour companies, arranged our tours, called taxis, and made dinner reservations. Everything we asked, they did willingly. The breakfast was very good, and the internet worked well. The location is very good, very close to Table Mountain, and a short taxi ride from the V&A Waterfront.

If you're going to Cape Town, a stay at the Derwent House won't disappoint. From check-in to check-out, you'll never hear the answer, "No." Whatever your needs, the caring staff is eager to please and will do everything within their power to make a request happen. Our room was not fancy, but completely adequate. Relax on your personal balcony (not all rooms), poolside, or in the spacious, well-decorated shared living area of the former home where an i-pad is available for use. Drinks and snacks are available 24/7 on the 'honor' system; simply make a note of what is taken. Hot breakfasts off the menu are included or just help yourself to granola, fruit and other morning choices. Restaurant reservations are happily made, taxis are called, luggage is carried, directions are given. Have questions they're uncertain of? Research will be done. Simply, owners Jo and Carol, with their fantastic 24/7 staff, will take care of you!

Room Tip: Request a balcony room.

A fairly small and very lovely little hotel up in the Garden area of Cape Town. Much more relaxed and low key than the Waterfront. Wonderful staff, relaxing, calm and quiet premises. Excellent breakfast menu.

Stayed here for four days with my family. Staff arranged for a private guide who was great. If you are four or more that's cheaper than going on buss guide. Also they do give suggestions on daytrips according to weather, and they can adapt the tour timing etc.

Simply a great little hotel with great service level.

If you like personal service, quirky furnishings and helpful staff this is the place for you. Previous reviews were very good and when we arrived it didnt disappoint. The staff are very welcoming, the rooms are well appointed and the breakfast was delicious. The pool area is lovely even if though weather wasnt good enough to fully appreciate it. Its not central but its easy enough to get a taxi (which the staff are happy to organise for you). Carol, the owner, gave us a lovely recommendation for dinner which was within walking distance. I thoroughly recommend this hotel.

My wife and I stayed for 6 nights in August. We were celebrating both of our birthdays AND our 10th Wedding Anniversary, so it was a special trip, with high expectations. Carol & Jo (the owners) and their wonderful staff did not disappoint. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome, and this never diminished throughout our stay. I had eMailed Derwent House on a number of occasions prior to our trip and all enquiries were always promptly answered, whether it was factual, advice, recommendation or organisation of trips. This level of care continued throughout our stay, with staff even contacting various restaurants & agencies on our behalf when the need arose. They even organised delivery of a take away meal for us one evening when we got caught in a rain storm and decided to stay in for that evening!

The place is fantastic-read any of the other reviews to confirm this. However, it's the 'little things' that put Derwent House Head & Shoulders above the rest - a mobile phone for your personal use, with pre-programmed useful numbers (use the taxi number provided - quick, dependable and much more reasonable than other companies); an extensive list of local restaurants, with personal ratings & comments from Carol & Jo as well as advice how to get to each; wi-fi in the lounge, but also access to an iPad with useful information already bookmarked; plenty of coffee table quality books and guides located in superbly furnished lounge; personalised notes each evening, with info for the following day; cakes, biscuits & teas...

Well worth visiting. We will (again)!
