brilliant staff - everyone was hugely attentive, helpful without being intrusive. Glad that we met Carol as she makes the place even more special and home from home. Highly recommended and worthy a visit.

Staying here is like a home away from home. The layout is great giving each room ample privacy. The family room we stayed in had great views of table mountain from the bedroom and views of the ocean (even though far away) from the private balcony. Conveniently located to aces table mountain and the water front however a little ways of a walk from Kloof street but a little walking never killed anyone. The staff were great and very attentive to our needs and provided ample suggestions when asked.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of Table Mountain.

Staying in Derwent was able to make my stay in Cape Town even better than I expected. The team there were fantastic! They were not only very accommodating of requests, helping us book tours, restos, etc, but I really appreciated all the tips on the local restaurants and vineyards. They really take the time to ask you about your preferences before they recommend to make sure their suggestions don't disappoint. What also impressed me was the fact that they offered local pre-paid phones which you can borrow and just top up. It made roaming around and calling for a cab easier.
The hotel itself isn't in the city center, which I preferred, but it has a good view of table mountain. The hotel has the look of a house which was converted into a hotel which means a smaller space but gave it a homey and cosy vibe.
This trip being my first time to Africa, they were able to make me feel comfortable and at home that I would definitely recommend everyone to stay here. Would definitely stay there again.

My wife and I stayed for 5 nights and truly felt like we were at home. The guest house is very well located with restaurants close by and is decorated beautifully. We truly appreciated the great advice and service provided by Denee and the team and cant say enough about the attention to detail. If you are looking for a perfect place to use as your home base while in Cape Town, we can't imagine a better place than this.

I booked the Derwent House for my small group (2 couples, 1 single) while we were in the Capetown part of our South Africa Tour. We were all very pleased and impressed with our accommodations and even more so the courtesy and helpfulness of the staff. Could not have found a better place to stay. Will be back the next time I bring a group to South Africa.

The Derwent Boutique Hotel was our first stay when arriving in South Africa (family with 2 boys 12+14) in October 2013. We were overwhelmed by the hospitality and friendliness of the staff there. Sitting in front of the open fireplace in the very tastefully designed living room or having a fantastic breakfast outside on the veranda near the swimming pool - you feel like staying in a friend's place rather than a hotel. Situated close to the Table Mountain the hotel is a good starting point to discover Cape Town. Looking back this wasp our favorite stay during our 10 day trip along the garden route.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
In a city renowned for hospitality, Derwent House stands out as one of Cape Town's leading boutique guesthouses. Located in the heart of the vibrant Tamboerskloof/Gardens neighbourhood, this small hotel combines historic charm, contemporary Afro-chic style and all mod-cons for a uniquely Capetonian blend of ambience, warmth, and comfort. Our wonderful team completes the picture -- we go the extra mile for you and our guests leave as friends. We love colour and celebrate African design - you'll find it everywhere. But when it comes to the basics - like breakfast, bedding, showers, climate control, Wi-fi or news from home - we don't compromise so you don't have to. At Derwent House, you're steps away from the hustle and buzz of Kloof Street, with its collection of superb restaurants, bars and trendy boutiques--and just a few further to the nightlife hub of Bree and Long Streets. Yet just a short car journey from the Table Mountain cable car, the beaches of Clifton or Camp's Bay, and the V&A Waterfront. There's nowhere more central -- but come and see for yourself.
