Great quiet location, with a fantastic cold and hot made-to-order breakfast each day. Public spaces elegantly decorated. Ask for room 4 if you can get it. No terrace but more than compensated with breathtaking views of Table Mountain. Gracious, friendly and obviously well trained staff really make this place.

Derwent House was the perfect welcome to Cape Town on our first trip to South Africa. The rooms were well appointed. We had a lovely deck overlooking the pool and a separate patio that overlooked devils peak. The common spaces were very trendy and decorated very cool. We felt right at home and greatly enjoyed the cakes/coffee that were set out at around 3PM and the honesty bar that was provided. The pool was awesome and the hot tub felt great after long hikes or days walking around the city. Staff were always friendly and accommodating. We always felt safe and looked after. Free and secure off-the street parking and internet were added bonuses.

Truly was a great stay. We stayed for 7 nights and would recommend this place for a short, or long term stay. We also stayed elsewhere for one night in Cape Town and Derwent House blew the other place out of the water for around the same price point! I would return without a doubt!

Had a fabulous stay at Derwent House last month. Carol , Jo and their wonderful staff make a relaxing ,homely holiday. Attention to detail both in the bedrooms. , lounge and kitchen area makes for a superb time.
I myself , can't wait to return. Walking distance from restaurants and bars. Short, cheap taxi ride to V&A waterfront.
Thanks for a wonderful stay.

My wife and I stayed there for 3 nights in October, en route back to the UK from Hluhluwe game reserve (soooo much better value than Kruger!)
There is absolutely nothing I could think of to fault the Derwent. The hotel itself is lovely with great facilities including a nice pool area. The room was a little on the small side but very nicely done out, very comfortable and a view of Table Mountain from the balcony - what more can you want.
Location wise, the Derwent is perfect. It is in a quiet road but 5-10 minutes (safe) walk to Long Street, going past a couple of nice bars and restaurants on the way.
And too much cannot be said for the staff at the Derwent. Vuyu especially was incredibly helpful and pleasant.
When we go back to CT there is only one place we would consider staying - thank you everyone at Derwent House.

Stayed here for two nights on a business trip and I wish that I did not have to leave! Everything was wonderful. From the friendly staff, service, food, accommodations, and sleep quality of the bed! I found myself looking forward to returning again one day with my family! By far the most enjoyable experience that I have ever had!

Our family of four spent five nights at Derwent House over the Christmas break and it could not have been a better experience. With two young teen boys we elected to stay in the family suite, and the room was everything that we had hoped it would be - and more. The finishings are beautiful and the small, well-equipped kitchen was a terrific bonus. At the outset, we debated whether it would be better for us to reserve two rooms instead of the family suite as our boys are older and need some space. In the end, the family suite was the perfect choice. The space is very well laid out and comfortable.

What really puts Derwent House over the top is the staff. Not only were they quick to handle every request, they also made terrific recommendations for restaurants and activities - and everything that they suggested was dead on perfect.

In terms of location, the neighborhood could not be more ideal. The hotel is situated in a quiet but beautiful residential area, but just a block or two from the city's best restaurants and shopping. Sitting at the pool or on the room's deck, you would have no idea that you are right in the middle of one of the world's most vibrant cities.

Finally, we can't imagine a trip to South Africa without a visit to this incredible city. Reading other reviews, we were a bit concerned about visiting during the height of the holiday season given the number of tourists that travel to Cape Town during the break. Our concerns were put to rest quickly. Yes, the city was alive with activity, but we never felt rushed or crowded (the only exception being a long wait to ascend Table Mountain). Cabs were plentiful, restaurants were accessible (with advance reservations), and it all felt very relaxed.

What we thought would be a once-in-a-lifetime experience has now become a priority for a return visit in the very near future. Derwent House, thank you for being a key part of such a remarkable trip.

It took me a while to write a review but better late than never. I stayed a week at Derwent in November 2013 and truly enjoyed my stay there. I spent a day in the hotel itself and the rest of the week in one of the apartments in the back.
While I found the hotel room a bit cramped, I loved the apartment, bright, spacious, well equipped, peaceful and modern.
What makes the Derwent truly remarkable is the sense of hospitality of the owners and staff. Vuyu, Dene and the rest of the team are just wonderful people, always willing to help and offer advices and suggestions.
Loved the afternoon "happy hour" at the Derwent as well with their nice selection of South African wines. As mentioned by other posters, the location is excellent, in a really quiet residential area of the city but at walking distance to restaurants and shops on Kloof.
Quick suggestion: Cafe Paradiso, down the road from Derwent is a gem of a restaurant.
