We had read about all the good reviews for Derwent House, but wondered if they could all be true. We wanted to experience what the fuss was all about. Wow! We were glad we stayed here. Everything was as described in the reviews.
We had a fantastic stay and would certainly stay here again without hesitation. We paid for a more expensive room and were not disappointed. It was large, spacious and bright. Bathroom was lovely – however, water pressure in shower was average. The breakfasts were much better than breakfasts at 5* hotels – fresh and not too much. The staff were well trained, efficient, friendly and helpful.
The hop-on hop-off bus stop (opposite the Lord Nelson hotel) was only 15 minutes walk from hotel. We bought the 2 days pass and had a great time in seeing Cape Town this way.

To stay at Derwent House is much better to be at home! The atmosphere of the house is warm, decoration is tasteful and what to say about the staff… they are wonderful. I can not avoid mentioning about Vuyo, with her wonderful recommendations about restaurants and Thimothy, with his very pleasant conversation. Location is good and easy to go walking to the Long Street and good restaurants. Rooms are small but, for us, its was not a big deal since evrything else was so great!

We stayed here for 5 nights and the only reason why I booked this hotel was because of the trip advisor reviews and man, was I delighted? Oh Yeah!! This place is literally amazing. I went there with my Wifey and Infant Daughter and not even for a moment did we feel if we were staying in a hotel. You feel at home and yet there are 6-7 other family(s)/Couple(s) who're in the same hotel feeling the same.
The whole concept is nothing less than amazing. The choice of books and movies they have in their library is amazing. We stayed in the 'beautiful' room (well, that's what they call it) and it was certainly beautiful and highly recommended.
Dene, Siphokazi, Timothy - You guys are rockstars. Love you all!

Room Tip: Take the rooms on the 1st floor, the view to the Table mountain is amazing.

My husband and I stayed here for four nights as part of our honeymoon in South Africa. We are so glad we did! Dene was so warm and helpful every day throughout our stay. She made sure we had dinner reservations in place every night and had great recommendations. She and Sephokazi were also very helpful with making plans for the day. The rest of the staff, including Timothy, were also fantastic, always introducing themselves and greeting us by name.

The hotel itself is beautiful. There is a pool and hot tub, which was great to have since we were there in winter. The common spaces are also beautiful and cozy. Unlike many other hotels I've been to, people actually used the common spaces for reading and sitting in front of the fire, which was great. We were upgraded to a beautiful room which was really nice. The bed was so comfortable and inviting, the balcony was fantastic and the bathroom was large, clean and stylish. The location was also great- we parked our car on the street (although they have a garage) with no problems and we walked to and from restaurants and bars on Long adn Bree street nearby. It was also an easy drive from Camps Bay, Table Mountain and downtown Cape Town. I would absolutely stay there again and recommend it highly!

Room Tip: We stayed in room 3, which I have to imagine is the nicest room in the hotel. It's one of the on...

We booked on line to say in a fairly, what we thought, good hotel. I was so disappointed. The rooms were tiny, dirty, they were not cleaned throughout our four night stay. Although the overall decor was tasteful in the hotel, the room were far too small, and the service was bad. At breakfast, each of our chosen meals arrived at different times, there was only one cook, who should have been able to cope with cooking breakfasts! But was totally incapable. There was no apology for the fact that it took twenty minutes to make one meal, and the others longer. A couple walked in, twenty minutes after breakfast had finished and asked for a poached egg on toast, the answer was no, breakfast had finished! Surely, for a supposed, "upmarket" boutique hotel, they could have made a plan? Clearly, lacking in supervision, and untrained staff. The parking was on the road outside the hotel, we were not allowed to ark in the hotel grounds. At check out, we were presented with a bill, that was shocking to say the least, and on checking it, I found that they had added on R990 for drinks that we had not taken! The receptionist was not particularly concerned, and just went round the corner to take the drinks off the bill, and re print another one. A very, very over priced "boutique" hotel, and I recommend, that for th eprices charged, the owners supervise not only the reception, but also the cleaning staff and most certainly the breakfast staff. I certainly will not be recommending this hotel. The only positive was the location.

The excellent reviews posted so far of Derwent House are well deserved. 5 minutes drive away from the CBD of Cape Town, this boutique hotel made us feel right at home. The place is clean and so beautifully decorated you really don't wanna step out of the hotel. Room is slightly small but enough to go about whatever you need to do in the room. If you feel like staying in, the lounge / common area of the hotel is perfect for you. A nice fireplace to keep you warm in the colder months and a well stocked up fridge that serves all the beverages you need. Breakfast is delightful as well. Ample parking around the area or within the property itself. It was easy to find with a GPS

We arrived at Derwent house after driving from Durban via the garden route staying at B&Bs along the way. All were very good but Derwent remains our number one. Excellent location, cleanliness, facilities and absolutely brilliant staff. Top breakfasts and dinner suggestions, Toni's Place, secured the best meal we had during our six week holiday. I must mention Vuyo, made our stay memorable, nothing was to much trouble even printing our Table Mountain e-tickets. Had a ball and we will be returning.
