Great place, convenient for access to the city. Rooms were delightful and the lounge area comforatble and welcoming. The immediate area felt safe to walk aroud at night. Carol & Jo provided a personal touch which helped to focus on getting the best out of a three night break. The restaurant recommendations were reliable - 'The Miller's Thumb' & 'Ginja' are both worth a visit. Return visit definitely on the cards if South Africa beckons again!

Stayed here for 4 nights in late November and agree with so many of the reviews posted... so nothing original to state. This was our fourth visit to Cape Town within 3 years and have stayed at some of the other top ranking small hotels reviewed on this site, but this was the best . The hotel layout is very good and of high quality. The pool area a big plus for this size of hotel and location. It's location, especially for those with a car, is excellent yet still conveniently positioned to get around on foot. The are plenty of excellent restaurants to choose from in walking distance or short taxi ride away. Carol and Jo are very friendly owners and offer local advise and assistance, they have certainly produced top class accomodation and and their staff are excellent. All in all, the place has a very relaxing feel about it and we would return tomorrow.

We spent the first 4 nights of our Honeymoon at Derwent House. It really was fantastic. The service was 5*, the breakfasts were wonderful and there was even afternoon tea provided with a wonderful selection of cakes each day. Our room was superb with a great view of Table Mountain. It was spotlessley clean and extremely comfortable. Jo and Carol really do pull out all the stops to make you feel right at home - they even put a little note on your pillow each night which has the weather report on it helping you to plan the next day. We will definitely be going back.

We spent 3 nights at this hotel and it was absoulutely fantastic. Jo and Carole will do anything to help you plan your day and recommend very good restaurants. The hotel itself is spotlessly clean and the staff are extremely polite and helpful. There is nothing bad to say about this hotel and if we return to South Africa, we will be staying at this place again, it's a gem!! We would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Cape Town.

Thank you Jo and Carole for a memorable stay - Simon & Bridget Kertland (Westbury, UK).

I challenge anybody to find anything at Carol & Jo's hotel that is not first class. House is beautifully restored, rooms are excellent and the breakfast sets you up for the day. The thing that sets this hotel apart is the personal service you get from Carol and Jo focused on your preferences. Recommendations on restaurants , places to visit, those gems that you shouldn't miss are all special to make your stay truly memorable. This is all done in a relaxed atmosphere that makes you feel you are visiting family or old friends. They have something special which you can't bottle and is more than being professional - I think it's beccause Carol and Jo are terrific people .

Owners and staff couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. They gave us lots of advice on where to visit and restaurant recommendations - all of which helped to make our stay in Cape Town very special. The rooms are very stylish and spotlessly clean. Super breakfast - great choice for a hotel of this size - pancakes were delicious. Would stay here again if we return to Cape Town.

My partner and I stayed at Derwent for 7 days and we enjoyed every single one of them. Carol and Jo were actually away on holiday - and most of the reviews refer directly to Carol and Jo. We were pleased to find that the rest of the staff lived up to the standards mentioned on the other reviews even in Carol and Jo's absence. Everything seemed to run like clockwork, in an unobtrusive and relaxed way. The staff could not do enough for us, from helping to book a car, to booking and recommending good restaurants and advising on things to do and see. Bongani was particularly helpful, making sure that we had everything we needed.

The atmosphere is so relaxed and the hotel itself is stylish and comfortable. It was quite windy when we were there as summer was just starting, so we had the fortune of returning after nights out, to sit by the fire and read with our free coffee and cakes! When we return to Cape Town we will definitely be staying here again.

If you are looking for great restaurants try The Codfather (Seafood) and Ginja which were our favourites.

Thanks again to all at Derwent.

At Derwent House, you're steps away from the hustle and buzz of Kloof Street, with its collection of superb restaurants, bars and trendy boutiques--and just a few further to the nightlife hub of Bree and Long Streets. Yet just a short car journey from the Table Mountain cable car, the beaches of Clifton or Camp's Bay, and the V&A Waterfront. There's nowhere more central -- but come and see for yourself.
