....if your home is a five star, designer styled villa with staff waiting on you hand and foot!

We booked Derwent House back in June for 10 days beginning on New Year's Eve. Once we confirmed we were asked if we wanted them to arrange car-hire ....a nice touch. Then in October we got an email from Carol reminding us that restaurants in Cape Town would be booked up over the New Year. We were given a list of over 20 restaurants and again, they offered to make any reservations we needed.

Derwent House is ideal for a chilled relaxed holiday, whether you want to sit by the pool or pack in all that the Cape has to offer. Carol, Jo and their staff are super attentive and you would do well to ask their advice...they know all the best restaurants, wine tours and will tell you the best time to visit Robben Island.

We had the perfect holiday, mostly made so by the quality of the facilities and staff at Derwent House. If you want the 5* experience without the stuffiness of your usual 5 star hotel then this is the one for you.

My husband and I just returned from a three week trip to South Africa. We spent time near Kruger, outside of Durban, in the Garden Route and in Cape Town. The Derwent House was the absolute highlight of our trip.

I found the Derwent House on Trip Advisor and really wondered if all of the positive reviews could be true. They were.

We got a shuttle from the airport to the Derwent House. The shuttle driver was great and this sure made it simple and easy for us. We were a little worried about the location, but it is fantastic. The Derwent House is very close to Table Mountain, the beaches, the downtown core, and many great restaurants. We didn't rent a car, as we could get around within Cape Town by foot or by taxi very easily. A car would make the longer trips out to the wineries and Cape Point easier though.

Upon arriving, we were greeted by Bongani. Bongani had someone take our luggage up to our room while he gave us a tour of the property. He explained everything to us (breakfast, laundry, air conditioners, honesty bar, etc.), showed us the pool, the common areas, etc. We really appreciated the quick explanation of everything.

Highlights:

- A great pool, with nice lounge chairs and umbrellas
- Fantastic breakfast
- Phenomenal staff, especially Bongani
- Carol and Jo
- Convenient location
- The effort to help us plan every day and recommend restaurants and activities
- The available lap top and internet access
- The late check out that they gave us

I can't think of more to say, but this bed and breakfast was fantastic. I can't think of any way that Carol and Jo could make it better. I wouldn't even think of staying anywhere else.

We have just returned from this fabulous boutique hotel in Cape Town, and it is nothing other than heaven!! From the two fantastic hosts Carol and Jo, the very professional and friendly staff, the beautiful decor of the hotel, to the delicious breakfasts every morning, made this a holiday to remember.
Thanks to Carol and Jo's expert recomendations we had the pleasure of eating at some of the most amazing resturants in Cape Town, and also was kindly given a lovely bottle of champagne for my birthday!
We would recommend anyone thinking of visiting Cape Town to stay at this fantastic hotel, where you will be guaranteed a trip of a life time. We will defitently be visiting this hotel very soon again.

Carol and Jo and their staff really know what they are doing, and that is providing a first class service. You will definitely enjoy this hotel, it is all good but a special mention goes to the breakfasts , which were fabulous and the honesty bar which is a great idea in a small hotel. Nothing is too much trouble at Derwent House, the staff will do their very best for you.

From the minute we arrived in Cape Town we knew we had hit gold with Derwent House. Everything was perfect - met from the airport, a warm, genuine welcome at Derwent House, a beautiful room and great restaurant recommended for lunch. The main attraction of so many at Derwent House is the amazing personal service of every single member of staff. Complimentary port, sherry, delicious biscuits and homemade cakes and gorgeous breakfasts. Nothing is too much trouble and their recommendations are based on personal experience. We will be returning ASAP!

My wife and I stayed at Derwent House for 4 nights in December 2008. We had a great time. Carol & Jo and their staff did an excellent job for us prior to our arrival and during our stay. We stayed in the suite room 9. Everything was great!
The pool is great on a summer day. The location is great also.
A brisk 30 minute walk to the cable car going up Table Mountain. 30 minutes walk to the V&A Waterfront. 5 Minutes to great restaurants and shops on Kloof Street and Long Street.

They also set us up with a great guide for a tour of the wine tasting region, Stellenbosch and Franschoek. Jamie from Cape Heritage tours was great and we ended up taking another tour with him through Cape Point and False Bay and to a township. Definitely ask Carol or Jo to set you up with Jamie on one of these day trips.

Overall our whole trip was excellent. And is started right at the Derwent House with breakfast every morning and their friendly staff making dinner reservations for us and booking day excursions as well.

We would highly recommend staying at Derwent House on anyones trip to Cape Town.

We only left this hotel yesterday but were so impressed that we wanted to post a review straight away. I can honestly say that we received the best service that we have ever had at any hotel, large or small. Every member of staff we came across introduced themselves personally, and Carol and Jo were so helpful and knowledgeable with regard to trips and restaurants, and booked anything we wished for us. They even gave us a list of recommended vineyards to visit at our next destination, Franschoek, and tried to book a restaurant for us in the village.

The cooked breakfasts were fantastic and the honesty bar/kitchen was very well stocked. The decor throughout the hotel (particularly the lounge/dining area) is gorgeous.

I can wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to stay in Cape Town and cannot image receiving better service at any hotel in the city.
